The event begins with a coach ride from Station Pier to Melbourne Park, the home of the Australian Open. Here, you will be welcomed to the Glasshouse for dinner before attending the evening tennis session taking place on Centre Court — Rod Laver Arena.

The Glasshouse is located on the banks of the Yarra River and just a two-minute walk to Centre Court. Enjoy an indulgent three-course meal in the spacious dining room with panoramic windows that look onto Melbourne Park. This is the ideal location to experience one of Australia’s premier sporting events. In addition, a special guest speaker will be in attendance and provide some insight to the tennis circuit.

Headlining the recital are soprano Lorina Gore and tenor Simon Kim, accompanied by maestro Tahu Matheson on piano. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime voyage.

LORINA GORE, SOPRANO Helpmann Award-winner Lorina Gore was born in Australia and completed postgraduate voice studies at the Australian National University in Canberra and at the National Opera Studio in London. She has won numerous prestigious opera awards, including the Dame Joan Sutherland Scholarship, Opera Foundation Covent Garden National Opera Studio Scholarship, and first place in the Australian National Aria Competition.

In 2008, Lorina joined Opera Australia as a principal artist and has since performed many roles including Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute), Leila (The Pearlfishers), Honey B (Bliss), Musetta (La bohème), Woglinde (Das Rheingold and Götterdämmerung), Violetta (La traviata) and her Helpmann Award-winning performance as Roxana in Krol Roger. Internationally, she has performed with Garsington Opera, Independent Opera, English Touring Opera and New Zealand Opera and in a series of concerts throughout China in 2009.

Lorina has appeared in concert as soprano soloist with many companies including the Sydney Philharmonia, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, and the Sydney, Darwin, Canberra, Queensland and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras. She has also recorded highlights from Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier with Yvonne Kenny for ABC Classics.

ONBOARD ENRICHMENT SERIESERINA KILMORE is the Tourism Noosa Board Director and the Director of Sales at Australia Zoo. Located an hour north of Brisbane on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Australia Zoo was made famous by the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin. The 105-acre zoo is the most interactive conservation destination on the planet where you can get up close to animals including koalas, wombats, and kangaroos.

SIMON KIM, TENOR Korean-born Simon Kim graduated in voice from Kyung Hee University in 1992. He moved to Italy later that year and undertook postgraduate studies in Genoa, Perugia and at the Salzburg Mozarteum in Austria. Whilst residing in Italy, Simon was successful in many vocal competitions and appeared as soloist in numerous concerts around the country. Upon his return to Korea in 2001, he undertook many leading tenor roles including Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Alfredo (La traviata) and the title role in Werther. Simon also sang major roles in professional productions of Korean operas which toured to China and Germany.

On the concert platform, he has sung with all the major Korean symphony orchestras as well as the Central Russia National Orchestra and the Ukraine Symphony Orchestra.

In 2009, Simon moved to Sydney and has become a principal artist with Opera Australia. Here his roles have included Macduff (Macbeth), Remendado (Carmen), Calaf (Turandot), The Herald (Don Carlos) and, most recently, Parpignol (Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour — La Bohème)

TAHU MATHESON, PIANIST Tahu Matheson is Head of Music at Opera Australia. He studied piano with Kalle Randalu in Germany, and with Oleg Stepanov and Natasha Vlassenko at the Queensland Conservatorium, where he completed his Master of Music. He is a frequent accompanist for international artists including Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Anthony Dean Griffey, Yvonne Kenny and Emma Matthews.

Tahu’s conducting repertoire for Opera Australia includes Tosca, L’elisir d’amore, The Magic Flute and The Pearlfishers at Sydney Opera House; Aida on the Beach and tours of Don Giovanni. Assistant Conductor: the Ring Cycle, Bliss, Falstaff, Otello, Rigoletto, Carmen, Capriccio, Of Mice and Men, The Barber of Seville, Lucia di Lammermoor, Werther, The Magic Flute, La Bohème, La Traviata, Madama Butterfly, La sonnambula, Orpheus in the Underworld, A Streetcar Named Desire, Billy Budd and Don Giovanni.

Elsewhere, Tahu has conducted Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins for Victorian Opera plus a concert performance of a new opera, Nelson, by Stuart Greenbaum in London. In 2017, he made his debut with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Tahu has been a soloist in the major concert venues throughout Australia and New Zealand, toured for Musica Viva and Chamber Music New Zealand, and been broadcast on New Zealand and Australian radio and television.

ANNA MARSDEN is Managing Director of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, which exists to ensure a Great Barrier Reef for future generations. The foundation seeks out the solutions and innovations that will also benefi t coral reefs globally as they tackle the same threats and challenges facing the world’s largest coral reef. Anna has worked extensively across the Queensland Creative and Non-Profi t Industries in managerial, marketing and business development roles for nearly two decades.

Before taking up the role of Managing Director in 2016, Anna was CEO of Queensland Ballet where she led a major change program resulting in enormous growth. She previously held roles as General Manager – Creative at Rowland, Australia’s leading corporate communications agency, Development Director of the Queensland Art Gallery and GoMA, and General Manager at the Institute of Modern Art. Anna holds board positions with Brisbane Festival, Brisbane Powerhouse and Circa.

KAREN BROWN is an artist from the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, and will introduce guests to Contemporary Australian Art with a focus on Indigenous Art. Aboriginal culture dates back as far as between 60,000 to 80,000 years, when Aborigines fi rst settled in Australia. The fi rst evidence of Aboriginal philosophy is evident in the still visible rock art which dates back more than 20,000 years.

There is no written language for Australian Aboriginal People, so in order to convey their important cultural stories through the generations, the language is portrayed by symbols and icons through their artwork.

PROFESSOR ROSS DOWLING, OAM is an Environmental Scientist who works in the planning and development of tourism in the world’s natural areas. A geologist and environmental scientist by training, he is currently Foundation Professor of Tourism at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia. There he conducts international research in the fi elds of ecotourism, geotourism and cruise ship tourism. He has authored over 200 publications and written twelve books.

He is a Member of the World Commission on Protected Areas (Switzerland), an Advisor to UNESCO on Geotourism (France), Co-founder of the International Cruise Research Society (Germany), and Director of the Indian Ocean Tourism Organisation (Oman). In New Zealand Professor Dowling has been awarded a Nature Conservation Council Citation for his contribution to Environmental Education, and in Australia he has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia [OAM] for his contributions to tourism education and development.

Australian PIETER DE VRIES, ACS is one of the leading documentary cinematographers in the world. His fi lms have won numerous awards, including several Emmys and BAFTA’s. Personally, he has been nominated for two Emmys, and won the Australian Cinematographer Society’s top Award, Cinematographer of the Year. He’s also won six ACS Golden Tripods for Best Cinematography.

De Vries, during a career that spans four decades, has shot in around one hundred and twenty countries, including the Arctic, the Antarctic, the Galapagos Islands, and in space. He’s also shot at great depths under the sea, for Titanic and Avatar director James Cameron, for his 3D feature length theatrical documentary Ghosts of the Abyss.

WARREN JOHN FAHEY, AM, is a folklore collector, cultural historian, author, actor, broadcaster, record and concert producer, visual artist, songwriter and a performer of Australian traditional and related historical music. He is the founder of Folkways Music (1973), Larrikin Records (1974) and a folk music ensemble, the Larrikins (1975).

Fahey sings and plays concertina. He continues to ‘revive’ old songs by marrying them with either traditional or new musical settings. He writes songs where there are no songs to tell an aspect of the Australian story. He has a distinguished career as a folklorist and collector of oral histories. His collection has been housed in the National Library of Australia since 1973.
