Parts of the circulatory system

• Artery – carries blood AWAY from the heart• Vein – carries blood TO the heart

Blood cells• 3 types of blood cells:• Red blood cells – Carry oxygen

• White blood cells – fight infections, kill viruses and bacteria

• Platelets (aka cell fragments) – form blood clots

• Blood pressure = the force that the blood exerts on the blood vessels

• High blood pressure – too much force is put on the blood vessels and organs and damages them over time

Problems with the circulatory system

• Heart attack – a clot forms in an artery that feeds the heart

• Stroke – a clot forms in an artery that feeds the brain.
