Sermon Series: Jesus Through the Eyes of John

Sermon Title: “Flying Blind”Sermon Scripture: John 9:1-7

Theme: This week we focus on the miracles of Jesus as seen in the Gospel of John, particularly the

giving of sight to a blind man. May God meet us in this hour of worship,

and may we experience his pres-ence clearly as we lift our hearts to

him.

From Our Organist, Marilyn Lee:It is a good thing when one can

present a rather contemporary set-ting to a hymntune in a refreshingly new way. Michael Hill (1949-2005) has taken UMH 290 “Go To Dark

Gethsemane,” and turned it into a story. Consider -- the pedals are the stumbling, plodding steps of Christ carrying the cross; the left hand sup-plies a mixture of major and minor chords -- cheers and weeping; the

right hand sings the beautifully mournful melody. It is our prelude.

An entirely different approach is our postlude.

Carness’s Corner:

This Saturday we are sending 23 of our youth and adults on what will be for many of them their first over-seas mission experience. They are headed to Costa Rica to continue the wonderful partnership we have had with the Methodist church there. Central has been sending adult groups there for years, partnering with different Methodist congregations to provide support and resources as they reach their communities for Christ. We consider it an honor to share in this ministry by being the light of Christ and helping make their facilities a welcoming place where people can come and hear the Gospel. Please be in prayer for this group during the week. Their theme verse for the week is John 10:10, and I love how this word from Jesus reads in The Message: “I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” May it be so, for both our friends in Costa Rica and our youth and adults going on the trip.

March 26Sermon Series: Jesus Through the

Eyes of JohnSermon Title: “Are You My Father?”

Sermon Scripture: John 8:31-39, 51-59

Theme: Throughout John’s Gospel, Jesus uses “I am…” statements to identify himself and reveal his char-acter. This morning in worship we take a closer look at one of those

statements to see what it means for our life with God.

From Our Organist, Marilyn Lee:We will hear several settings of “OFilii et Filiae” (O Sons and

Daughters) this Lenten season, from our organs. Each composition is so very different from the others that there is no overlapping of recog-

nition among them. Today’s offer-tory is an arrangement by Carson

Cooman (b. 1982).

We are always looking for items for our silent auction to help our youth with their summer mission trips. We will once again feature the “Love Me Twice” Boutique, filled with vintage items for sale. If you have any item(s) or know of any business that would donate to a worthy cause, please contact Janet Tate at 479.899.8703 or Judy McMurtrey at 479.464.9622. Our Senior High students and adult leaders will be heading out for Costa Rica on Saturday, March 18 and return Satur-day, March 25. While in Costa Rica, they will be serving a local Methodist Church in Alajuela through various painting and construction projects.

Please join in praying for our team: pray for travel mercies (many travelling for the first time internationally), protection as we paint and build in the heat (near 100 degrees most days), openness (to experience God in a new way, Costa Rica culture, and to love our Costa Rica neighbors), and for our Methodist brother and pastor, Eddier and the church we will be serving at and worshipping with.

If you would like to send a note along with our team to en-courage them, please visit the table in the Atrium or bring a note by the church no later than Wednesday. March 15!

Thank you for your continued support and prayers for our youth and their Costa Rica Mission Trip!
