The silent e changes a into ai c followed by the letter e is pronounced as s, thus the e has a double function.
It changes a into ai and c into s; k is unchanged, ace, race, face become [ais, rais, fais ] and make, bake, take become [maik, baik, taik ].

To say an i sound put your lips in a big smile (from ear to ear) position, teeth are very close together, the tongue is behind the bottom teeth.
