Greeting Senior Circle Members! Welcome to 2018—what a year we have in store for you! Late last year, we announced that the national Senior Circle Association would be phased out, and that our Senior Circle would be completely locally controlled. We are still working on exactly what that transition means for us behind the scenes, but we hope that it has been and will continue to be seamless for you! We remain as committed as ever to Senior Circle, and are excited about the growth opportunities that a completely local program will allow. As you all know, we have been looking at buildings in the Las Cruces area for some time that would better accommodate the activities we host, and most importantly, that have plentiful parking options! While we haven’t found the perfect building just yet, we continue to look at options almost weekly.

We’re so grateful that each of you has decided to be a part of our MountainView family. Our goal with Senior Circle has always been to provide education, fitness, and social opportunities to keep both your body and mind healthy. Studies have shown that the more active you are, the healthier you stay. And while we certainly hope you don’t ever need the services in the hospital, we also want you to be familiar with what they are in case the time comes when you do need them. We want to make sure you know who our physicians are and know about important health screenings that could help you prevent more serious illnesses.

With that in mind, I wanted to share some updates with you about what is happening at MountainView. In November, we opened the doors to our long-awaited stand-alone

emergency room, MountainView Emergency Center at Main. This is an emergency room like any other and will take care of patients with all types of emergent conditions. It is located at 2811 N. Main Street, near the Elks intersection. We also recently implemented a one-call phone number for primary care appointments. If you need a new primary care provider, or you need to see someone same or next day, call 575-532-WELL. Our team can suggest a physician that meets your needs and is located in a part of town that is convenient for you. Another exciting development for MountainView is that as of January 1, we welcomed the providers and staff from Rio Grande Medical Group into our network of MountainView physicians. Rio Grande has always done a great job of providing patients quick, easy access to care, and we are excited to have them on our team! Finally, this month, we are thrilled to welcome Seph Naficy, MD, a cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon, to MountainView. You’ll be hearing from Dr. Naficy later this quarter at a Lunch and Learn, but we are excited about the minimally invasive cardiac and vascular experience he brings to our community.

As I look forward to 2018, I see another year of growth and change for MountainView, and for Senior Circle as well. Thank you for letting us be a part of your life—and thank you for letting us serve you.

Message from the CEO

Denten ParkMountainView Chief Executive Officer

Greetings Senior Circle! It is with mixed emotion that I tell you that I left my position with MountainView in December. I have moved to Tucson, where I have accepted a job at Northwest Medical Center and Oro Valley Hospital. I have been so grateful to be a part of Senior Circle over my past two and a half years at MountainView. You have shown me what a successful Senior Circle program looks like, and I think I will spend the rest of my career trying to create something as special as what we have here. While I am certainly sad to say goodbye to Las Cruces and to all of you, I am so excited to see what the future holds for Senior Circle. Having a completely local program is an incredible opportunity, and I know you will see many fun additions and fresh ideas over

the coming months. I am confident that Kim and Valerie will do a wonderful job leading Senior Circle and continuing to create a program in which you find value. While I was not able to spend as much time at Senior Circle as I may have liked, I was honored to get to know so many of you. Thank you for sharing your energy, your opinions, and your enthusiasm with me! Veronica Peery

My name is Chuck Spicka and I have been a member of MountainView Senior Circle since its inception. I want to share a recent life changing experience I had this last October. When I was younger, I lived in Topeka, Kansas. The Korean war was going on and the 174 MP BN Co B guard was called to duty. I was only 17 years old and I had to beg my mother to get her approval for me to enlist. I was stationed at Fort Sheridan, Illinois from 1950-51 and then went to Korea with the 519 MP BN Co A, serving there from 1951-53. My service time is relevant because this is what the Honor Flight is all about. In 2016, there was an article about the Honor Flight of Southern New Mexico (HFSNM) that would visit Washington DC to see the memorials. I filled out an application and was accepted to go. The trip consisted of 3 days filled with several escorts from motorcycle clubs to Patriot Guards all honoring the 27 Veterans of WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars from Southern New Mexico and El Paso. Throughout the journey, Veterans were recognized during several events and during visits to the FDR WWII Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, Navy Memorial, United States Air Force Memorial and the Women’s Memorial. The final stop was to the Arlington National Cemetery for The Changing of the Guard ceremony. I really enjoyed this emotional and interesting tour and will have memories to last the rest of my life! WHAT A TRIBUTE TO OUR VETERANS! I was humbled to be a part of it. When you see a veteran, please thank them for their service! Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created soley to pay respect to America’s war veterans for all of their sacrifices. HFSNM transports our heroes, at no cost to them to Washington DC, and is supported by donations from individuals, groups and organizations. For information on HFSNM please call 844-697-1590 or go to www.honorflightnm.org.
