LESSON PLAN.

Form : 4 Amanah

No. of student : 25 student

Date : 26 August 2011

Day : Thursday

Session : 2.00 – 3.20 p.m. (80 minutes)

Subject : Mathematic

Topic : Circles III

Sub topic : Tangents to a circle, angle between tangent and chord

Learning objectives:

Students will be taught to:

1. Understand and use the concept of tangents to a circle.

2. Understand and use the properties of angle between tangent and chord to solve problems.

3. Understand and use the properties of common tangent to solve problems.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of this session, students will be able to:

1. Identify tangents to a circle.

2. Make inference that the tangent to a circle is a straight line perpendicular to the radius

that passes through the contact point.

3. Construct the tangent to a circle passing through a point:

a) On the circumference of the circle,

b) Outside of the circle.

4. Determine the properties related to two tangents to a circle from a given point outside the

circle.

5. Solve problem involving tangents to a circle.

6. Identify the tangent in the alternate segment which is subtended by the chord through the

contact point of the tangent.

Page 2: Circle III Form 4 - Lesson Plan

7. Verify the relationship between the angle form by the tangent and the chord with the

angle in the alternate segment which is subtended by the chord.

8. Perform calculation involving the angle in alternate segment.

9. Determine the number of common tangents which can be drawn to two circles which:

a) Intersect at two point,

b) Intersect only at one point,

c) Do not intersect.

10. Determine the properties related to the common tangent to two circles which:

a) Intersect at two point,

b) Intersect only at one point,

c) Do not intersect.

11. Solve problems involving common tangents to two circles.

12. Solve problems involving tangents and common tangents.

Teaching and learning approaches:

Constructivism learning.
