Leer from your President Hello to the Indianapolis Chapter! I’m excited to publish the first newsletter as your new president. It has been rewarding to be involved in the Chapter over the past few years, and I believe this year will follow suit. I would just like to share some good news and also thank those responsible! First, the conclusion of the latest chapter year (which was June 30 th ) culminated in the Chapter earning Platinum status, which is awarded to Chapters that earn Gold status 10 out of 11 years. This was made possible by the support that the members (you!) have given and continue to give for our Chapter events and the Internal Audit profession in general. I would also like to thank the countless volunteers that have given their time and talents in various capacities over the past decade. The officers, Board of Governors, and committee members have been hard at work to ensure we carry on that tradition with another successful year. It’s all in an effort to serve you and the profession. Next, I would like to thank everyone for their support of the May Regional Conference. We received extremely positive feedback for the event, and I believe we represented our city and Chapter well. We thought it would be nice to share some of the highlights related to the event. Please see the separate Regional Conference notes within this newsletter. Finally, thank you to those who took the time to complete our annual survey. We’ve gathered your responses and used them in developing the plan for the programs this year. The programming schedule is in the process of being finalized. You’ve probably seen that the first few programs have been published and are open for registration. We hope to see you at many of these events. I encourage you to promote these training opportunities with others on your audit team and other departments within your organization if the topics are applicable. As the chapter year kicks into full swing, please let us know your feedback, either through the designated event’s survey or email any of the officers listed on the last page of this newsletter. We would love to know what we can do to better meet our members’ needs. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming chapter event! Letter from your President

Hello to the Indianapolis Chapter! I’m excited to publish the

first newsletter as your new president. It has been rewarding to be

involved in the Chapter over the past few years, and I believe this year

will follow suit. I would just like to share some good news and also

thank those responsible!

First, the conclusion of the latest chapter year (which was June

30th) culminated in the Chapter earning Platinum status, which is

awarded to Chapters that earn Gold status 10 out of 11 years. This was

made possible by the support that the members (you!) have given and continue to give for our

Chapter events and the Internal Audit profession in general. I would also like to thank the

countless volunteers that have given their time and talents in various capacities over the past

decade. The officers, Board of Governors, and committee members have been hard at work to

ensure we carry on that tradition with another successful year. It’s all in an effort to serve you

and the profession.

Next, I would like to thank everyone for their support of the May Regional Conference.

We received extremely positive feedback for the event, and I believe we represented our city and

Chapter well. We thought it would be nice to share some of the highlights related to the event.

Please see the separate Regional Conference notes within this newsletter.

Finally, thank you to those who took the time to complete our annual survey. We’ve

gathered your responses and used them in developing the plan for the programs this year. The

programming schedule is in the process of being finalized. You’ve probably seen that the first

few programs have been published and are open for registration. We hope to see you at many of

these events. I encourage you to promote these training opportunities with others on your audit

team and other departments within your organization if the topics are applicable.

As the chapter year kicks into full swing, please let us know your feedback, either

through the designated event’s survey or email any of the officers listed on the last page of this

newsletter. We would love to know what we can do to better meet our members’ needs.

I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming chapter event!

Monthly CAP Update

The CAP total is 896 as of September 30, 2014. Noteworthy CAP

earnings include attendance at the co-sponsored Indiana CPA

Society Fraud Conference and the recent Auditor Skills event. We

are well on our way to maintaining our Platinum status. Several

members also continue to give back to the profession by speaking

in non-paid engagements or writing articles on internal auditing.

Please let us know what you are doing for the profession!

IPPF Changes

Page 5

LinkedinLinkedin Join the Indy IIA group on LinkedIn - search for "IIA - Indianapolis Chapter".

The IIA is considering changes to the International Professional Practices

Framework (IPPF).

The IIA is now accepting public comments about the changes they are

proposing to the IPPF.

Public comments are due by November 3, 2014. I strongly recommend you read

the IIA website for the exposure draft and review the changes in detail and

provide your feedback. As a member of the IIA and of the internal audit

profession your input and perspective are very important and necessary. Our

profession is only as good as we make it, so please help us make it all it can be.

1. The IPPF will add a mission statement: to enhance and protect

organizational value by providing stakeholders with risk-based, objective

and reliable assurance, advice and insight.

2. Add core principles for the professional practice of internal auditing:

integrity, objectivity, competence, organizational authority, strategically

aligned, resources, quality improvement, efficiency and effectiveness,

communicates effectively, provides reliable assurance, insightful, proactive,

future-focused, and promotes positive change.

3. Implementation Guidance and Supplemental Guidance – The current existing

Practice Advisories and Practice Guides would be replaced with these new

elements. Implementation Guidance will provide potential or acceptable

approaches to achieve Standards conformance. Supplemental Guidance would

give detailed processes and procedures, tools, techniques, programs and step by

step approaches as assistance to conducting internal audit activities but not

necessary to conform to Standards.

4. Addressing Emerging Issues – develop a process for the identifying,

analyzing, and publishing emerging issues guidance quickly.

5. Position Papers – would be deleted as guidance.

6. Required and Recommended – the current “mandatory” and “strongly

recommended” existing IPPF elements will be changed to “Required” and

“Recommended”, respectively
