The Social Media Landscape
1.3B Users. 30M companies
300M Users. 50k job applications daily
1B Users. 500m Tweets daily
Isn’t social media just a whole lot of
NOISE?
State of play: Procurement
• We don’t have any ‘celebrities’ in the
profession
• But it is inevitable
• You’re using social without even realising it!
Supplier connection, collaboration,
and problem-solving
• Small Private Networks allow for collaboration
• Opportunity to build incredibly valuable
databases
• Speed up problem solving across the supply
chain
Supply chain monitoring
• Real time monitoring allows for instant
reactions
• Can provide serious competitive advantage
• Already utilised in other industries
Demand sensing
• Ability to track trends
• Understand where and why
• Still in early stages
• Big data will have huge implications going
forward
Procurement has access to great,
shareable content!
• Buying Private Jets
• Dropping Beer Glasses
• A Fleet of Jeeps by email
• Snakes on a Plane
• Share your story!
Procurement needs to upskill
• Tightening labour market
• Learn constantly or quickly become redundant
• Social Media is the perfect learning platform
• Procurious offering a suite of classes free
Procurement wants to be a
customer of choice
• Connect with your suppliers
• Sales & Marketing have been doing this for
years
• Better understand who you’re dealing with
Procurement needs to create 360
degree visibility
• Be constantly front of mind with all
stakeholders
• Procurement touches every part of the
business
• This should be reflected in Social Media
presence
• Engage & interact with all parties
Procurement is inherently suited to
horizontal collaboration
• You’re already accustomed to multi-faceted
comms
• Social Media makes this easier
• Remote collaboration is made much easier online
“I don’t have the time”
“I don’t know where
to begin”
20-30 minutes is all it
takes

A word of warning
• You’re dealing with commercially sensitive
material

• If something doesn’t feel right to post, don’t post it
• Most of all, use your common sense
• Enjoy the adventure!
