Accreditation is a critical next step for our profession

• Raise the bar on Canadian IONM standards • First step in becoming an independent, self-regulated, and recognized Allied

Health Profession in Canada Goals:

Provide an independent assessment and documentation of professional competency Validate safe and effective job-related skills and practice Encourage continued professional development Provide acceptable standards of practice for IONM Establish and measure level of knowledge and judgment required for practice

Prerequisites

In order to challenge the examination, ALL applicants must meet the following criteria:

Stream of Entry Eligibility Conditions Met

Minimum 36 Months Experience in IONM

Recent IONM Experience (minimum 24 months in previous 5 years)

300 IONM Cases Monitored (not as an observer)

Minimum Case Breakdown Achieved (25 each for brain, brainstem, spine, and vascular)

Attestation from 2 Surgeons

CINP Exam

• CINP will have a very different competency profile than CNIM because of our desired model of care in Canada (i.e. “expert in the room does the interpretation”)

• CINP will have an expanded scope of practice and, as a result, there needs to be a comprehensive process to assess the competency of individuals and their ability to work independently and make informed decisions

• Clinical/basic neuroscience and disorders • Signal acquisition, processing, and troubleshooting • EEG • SEP & BAEP • MEP (incl. D-wave, cortical mapping, subcortical mapping, corticobulbar MEP)

• EMG (incl. triggered, cranial nerve, reflexes)

• Anesthesia • Professional conduct and patient safety (ie. electrical safety, ethics, OR

procedures)

• Other (ie. DBS, spinal cord mapping, brainstem mapping, NCS, VEP)
