Ceylon cinnamon is a must for all gardeners as it gets rid of

fungus or any kind of harmful pets that cause damage to the

plants. It even acts as a disinfectant so housewives use it to

eradicate black ants, bad odor, mosquitoes and flies from their

house. It is pet and child friendly, so you can use it without

thinking of its side effects. Even though cinnamon has huge

health benefits, everyone should exercise some caution.

Everyone knows that excess of everything is bad so overdose of

cinnamon may cause great damage to health. Cinnamon should

not be taken over extended period of time. If done, it will build a

certain level of toxicity in the body of the user.

When not to Use Cinnamon

Intake of cinnamon is a big ‘NO’ for a pregnant woman. The

reason is that it has the chances of inducing premature labor or

even uterine contractions. It is a known fact that Ceylon

cinnamon helps in stomach pain and indigestion. But a pregnant

woman should avoid it even for this purpose. Cassia cinnamon

contains a high level of coumarin. So an individual, who takes

cinnamon on a daily basis for several health reasons or for

dieting, should switch to Ceylon cinnamon. This is because

Ceylon cinnamon contains only .04% of coumarin. High level of

this substance causes liver failure.

Cassia cinnamon thins the blood and so Ceylon cinnamon

should be taken. Blood thinning property of cinnamon acts as an

anti-clotting agent, particularly for those people who are

suffering from heart disease. Some people are allergy to

cinnamon. The symptoms seen on the affected people are watery

eyes, running nose, shortness of breath, facial or hand swelling,

nausea, dizziness and even sudden drop in blood pressure.

Cinnamon irritates the skin and creates a burning sensation if

touched without diluting. So, cinnamon oil should always be

diluted before use. As cinnamon increases heart rate, high dose

of cinnamon could be dangerous for people suffering from heart

condition.
