The days are once again getting longer and the thaw-
ing of snow and ice are upon us. Hence the excitement
begins as we look forward to another year of boating,
socializing and enjoying all that beautiful Lake
George has to offer. If you’re like me, you measure
seasons by the launching and hauling out of your
boat!
I would like to take this time to introduce myself for those who do not know me…
My name is Cindy Quade and I am proud to take on the reins as your Commodore of
Harris Bay Yacht Club. Following in the footsteps of Commodore Bill Freyer will not
be an easy task, but I am up for the challenge and I am grateful to work alongside such
a great board of dedicated members who work hard for the benefit of the clubs busi-
ness and best interest. As a lifelong boater, I never imagined that my passion for
boating would take me to the position that has been bestowed upon me as your
Commodore; and for that I am humbly honored.
I have been a boater at HBYC since 1994 when I bought my first boat on my own.
I had my name on ‘the list’ to purchase a dock and after 10 years Dan Behan called me
to tell me my name had finally risen to the top of the list… my first thought was
‘Wow, there really is a list!’… Of course, I immediately jumped on the opportunity
purchasing a dock over on F and have been proud to call myself an owner ever since.
I have been serving on the board as Director at Large for the past 6 years and also
served as Treasurer for the past 5 years. It was as Treasurer that I learned more about
the Clubs operations and became increasingly involved with the operations each year.
As with any board I have served on, my original intention was to get involved and
to hopefully be able to contribute. With this board, it was immediately obvious that I
was among an extremely knowledgeable and dedicated group of members and I have
learned so much working with them. This was more than just an opportunity get in-
volved, it’s a great opportunity to make a difference and as Commodore I hope to be
able to do that. To make a difference and improve upon what has been started. With
this boards dedication and passion, I know we can do just that.
We all have the same vested interest – to make the club prosperous, to help it grow
and to maintain and improve our services to the members while sustaining costs. Not
always an easy task!

Right now is a pivotal time for our club. I have many goals for the club, but my
#1 goal is to communicate… to you the members. Our board works hard on the
clubs work, and although I know it is not always convenient for all to attend meet-
ings, as a member you are always welcome to attend.
Moreover, I feel it is important that our members are involved on some level.
And in as much as I realize involvement is not for everyone, there are members out
there that may have an interest or want to learn more about what is going on, but
aren’t sure how to take that first step. My door is always open and I will do my best
to keep you up to date on the happenings on the club.
For those interested, there are several ways you can get involved and my first
task as Commodore has been to start with a call to action for committee members.
On our members side of the website you will see several new committees that you
may have an interest in joining and helping. There is a brief description of what the
committee is tasked with doing. If you have an interest or a question about any of
the committees goals, please call me. I am always accessible either by phone or
email and I would love to have your participation if you find any of these commit-
tees a good fit for you.
Even if a committee is not right for you, I would love to hear from you. Your
ideas, wishes and desires for our club are important to me. Together greater things
can be accomplished. I am always open to new ideas. It takes more than just a board
of nine; we are a membership of many.
Please remember to check updates on the members side of the web as much as
possible. As much as I will try to visit with as many members as possible, it is un-
realistic that I will be able to meet everyone. Therefore, my best means of commu-
nication with all will be by the use of our members side on the website. There you
will find news and updates as well as Committee information. Again, if you are in-
terested in joining a committee contact me or your dock directors.
Lastly, the Staff at HBYC has been busy all winter working and planning on this
upcoming season. I would like to give a shout out to them and thank them for their
dedication to the club. It is their passion for this club that makes the difference for
us all.
Best Regards and Happy Boating!
