I am going to see Cinderella!

Cinderella is a special kind of show called a pantomime. The actors will tell the story by talking, singing and dancing.

Cinderella is at the Theatre Royal

We will show our tickets to a steward in a uniform who will look like this.

When we get inside the Theatre it may be busy, so I will have to stay patient and calm

My seats will be in a place called the Stalls, Dress Circle, Upper Circle or Balcony. To get to my seats I may have to climb a few stairs or use the lift.

The steward will look at our tickets and tell us where we need to go. The letters and numbers on the tickets tell us where we have to sit. It is not a choice.

Before we take our seats in the auditorium, I can use the toilet. If I need to use the toilet, I can ask the person I am with.

Then we will go inside the auditorium. The Theatre is very big and there are lots of seats.

My seat will look like this.

If I cannot see the stage clearly, I can ask an adult for a booster seat to sit on.

When the show starts I will hear music and we will be introduced to some of the characters.

When it is time for the show to start, the theatre will get a little bit darker and everyone will need to be quiet.

Different parts of the show can be loud. If I don’t like it I can cover my ears, wear my ear defenders or go to the chill out area.

We will see lots of actors singing and dancing as they start to tell the story. There are good and bad characters. This is Michaela and Phelina. When we see them, we need to ‘boo’!

After each song, some people will clap and cheer.

Clapping makes the actors happy. If I want to clap, I can. If the clapping is too loud, I can cover my ears or wear my ear defenders.

It is important to remember the actors are just pretending and telling a story. The story and their characters are not real.

After the interval, everyone will come back and sit in their seats again. It will get a bit darker and quieter like at the beginning of the show.

In the middle of the show there is a break called the interval. I can use the toilet, buy a drink or snack from the kiosk. The interval lasts for 20 minutes.

At the end of the show, all the actors will come out on to the stage and bow. This called a curtain call. Many people will clap and cheer so the actors know how much they liked the show.

If I want to clap, I can. If the clapping is too loud, I can cover my ears or wear my ear defenders.

After the show has finished, we will leave the Theatre Royal.

I am very excited to see Cinderella!
