SETUP INSTRUCTIONS FOR QTERM-II TERMINAL QTERM-II Terminal CIMCO DNC-Max 6 supports the use of hand-held terminals. A hand-held terminal is used where a CNC does not have a full keyboard, for remote handling of DNC applications. With the handheld terminal a CNC machine operator can request a CNC program from the DNC computer, even while the machine is still working with another program. The terminal is serially connected to the DNC-Max 6 - just like a CNC machine. When a CNC program is to be requested or stored, the name of the CNC program is entered and sent as an ASCII string to the DNC computer.

Serial connection pins: As shown in the pin assignment table from the Qterm-II user manual, PIN 1+3 are used for serial connection , RXT (receive) and TXT (send) respectively. Pin 6 is used for ground . Power pins: The Qterm-II can be powered with for example a Moxa 12V power supply. The pin assignment table shows that pin 5+6 are used for +V and –V (ground) respectively. Using the Moxa 9-pin serial SUB-D connector you can splice the cable and connect the Moxa 12V+/- to cable connected pin 5/6 (RJ11). Connector with flat 6-wire telephone cable.

Setup Qterm In the following the 'Save', 'Down' and 'Up' keys refer to the three rightmost buttons in the top row of the terminal. Top - Right: this is the up key Top - 2nd from Right: this is the down key Top - 3rd from Right: this is the save key - Hold down any key and apply power to the QTERM-II (you do not need to connect the transmit and receive lines). - As long as you hold down the key the QTERM-II will display the actual software version. Releasing the key you can adjust the display contrast. - Set the desired display contrast using the up and down keys. When the display has contrast you like, press the save key. - Set the desired baud rate (9600) using the up and down keys. When the desired baud rate is displayed, press the save key. - Set the data format using the up and down keys. When the data format '8n1' is displayed, press the save key. - Disconnect power and go to the next step. Loading QTERM-II configuration files The QTERM-II configuration files contain information about keyboard layout etc. The configuration is loaded into the terminal using the QSET2.EXE program.

Note : Qset2.exe and all necessary files are stored here: C:\CIMCO\DNCMax6\Utils\QTerm. Remember to start the Qset2.exe using the command line!

1. Apply power to the terminal 2. Start the command prompt (in Run/Search type command – cmd –) 3. Change directory to C:\CIMCO\DNCMax6\Utils\QTerm:

2. Run the QSET2.EXE from a command line (the example uses –c1 which is COM1): Enter this command example: QSET2.EXE -d –c1 Q2KEYS01.V40 (if the version displayed is v4.xx)

The configuration file ’ Q2KEYS01.V40 ’ is successfully loaded into the Qterm-II terminal. Configuring handheld terminals in DNC-Max 1. Apply power to the terminal 2. Start the DNC-Max server and the administration program. 3. In the administration program select 'Setup'/'Handheld terminals'
