CIM Usage

• CIM is an information model, not a database(There is no IEC standard defining that!)

• The IMM database schema is derived from theCIM and can hold data defined by the CIM in astructured way

Extending the CIM Model

• Separation of extensions through Namespaceassignments makes it easy to maintain compatibilitywith standard based interfaces

• Standard interfaces consider the Namespace“CIM“ only (ignoring any attributes inherited froman extended class) and remain CIM-compliant.E.g. the IMM import / export interface can be toldto ignore any attributes inherited from an extendedclass

• Solutions-/Project Namespaces extend thestandard Profiles (e.g. “SPC”, “SP7”, “IMM” or“PROJ_XYZ”)
