Farewell It is with a really heavy heart that I’d like to let you
all know that as of the end of this week Mrs Wiggins is retiring.
After 42 years in the teaching profession Mrs Wiggins can look
forward to spending more time with Mr Wiggins, her new beautiful
grandson and enjoying life at the beach. Corindi PS has been very,
very fortunate to have had Deb here for the last 13 years. Her
dedication to students, families and the community has been second
to none. I’m sure you’ll all join with us in wishing Mrs Wiggins a
long and happy retirement. She will be sorely missed.

CLASS NEWS Koala News… Our digraph for Week 5 is “wh” – what, when.
Remember to continue practicing all the sounds we have learnt. The
red and green folders that have been sent home with sounds, words
and sentences can stay home and used as home readers. These will be
collected at the end of the year. Yesterday I sent home a booklet
of sight words that do not need to be returned but used as practice
at home. Yesterday I also sent home a copy of the Three Bears Rap.
I would appreciate if you could assist the students in reciting it
at home so we can say it clearly and confidently. In Maths we are
looking at Friends of 10, Ordinal numbers and Mass. Have a great
week.
Mrs LaCoste
Possum News… Our class has been learning Auslan Sign Language all
year and we thank Mrs Hoskin and Miss Kerryanne for their guidance!
We start each day with our ‘Good morning song using our signing’ –
so please ask your child to sing and sign you our special song. All
our students can also sign the numbers 1-10 and we are now also
working on 11-20 in our maths sessions, along with a few 2D shapes.
Teaching young children sign language has many cognitive benefits
as it involves using hands, body and facial expressions in unison
to communicate, which uses the visual-spatial part of their brain.
This is the same part of the brain that we use to learn to read and
for this reason, sign language can be beneficial to teach young
children as it exercises the same part of their brain that is
linked to reading and spelling. Research also shows that children
who learn to sign are more readily able to translate letters/words
to the written language. So, please ask your little Possum to show
you some of their signing! This week is a big sound and letter
week, as we will be focusing on the many letters and their
combinations for the sounds /s/ as in ‘seal’, /ss/ as in ‘kiss’,
/se/ as in ‘mouse’, /ce/ as in ‘juice’, /x(ks)/ as in ‘fox’ and /c/
as in ‘pencil’ within our spelling words and sound/letter work.
During maths, we focus on ‘Multiplication’ and our
Three-Dimensional (3D) Space and Shapes. The learning at home idea
for this week is…to ‘make equal groups of pasta shells (or pegs) at
home’ (For example, 2 groups of pasta shells with 3 pasta shells in
each group, 2x3=6 to complement their multiplication maths learning
for this next fortnight. Thank you to the parents who have uploaded
their child’s ‘baby photo’ to our class Seesaw App. It has been
simply delightful seeing all our student’s cute baby pics. We will
be using them this week during our PDH lesson on ‘How we change
over time’. Please feel free to contact us through our class Seesaw
App as it is a great way for us all to ‘stay connected’ and
communicate in these challenging Covid times. Stay healthy and
safe!
Mrs Taylor and Miss Hearne
Bilby News… This week we will begin to practise our “Macbeth” play
for the performance in Week 10. Don’t be surprised if your child
starts speaking in “Olde English” as we are also learning some fun
words to use in our play! We are also learning about chance and
data in mathematics and will be investigating how to represent
information using picture and column graphs. In geography, we are
comparing Australian landscapes and how they impact our lifestyles.
While in reading the class will be continuing their research on an
Olympic sport and producing a PowerPoint to present their
information. Enjoy your week
Mrs Galloway
Stage 3 News… This week Stage 3, in geography they will be creating
their own biome in Minecraft Edu. They will be choosing a biome,
identifying human impact and then replicating the some part of the
human impact in their design. We will then take screen shots and
create a pic collage representation of their world. In maths for
the next couple of weeks we are concentrating on division and order
of operation (BODMAS). Don’t forget that Dingoes have recorder
Monday and Friday and the Emus on Thursdays with Mr Taylor.

August is Fruit and Veg Month! This year’s theme is Festival Fruit
and Veg. To celebrate we are holding a Fruit & Veg Art
Festival!
Let’s celebrate the amazing colours and forms of fruit and
veg!
You can create any piece of art dedicated to fruit and vegetables -
the options are only limited to your imagination!
Artwork will need to be completed at home and at the end of the
month, will be displayed in the Library. There will be prizes for
each stage winner, and a colouring competition for K-2
SO GET CREATIVE!
CLASS NEWS
Platypus News… Welcome to Week 5 - half way through the Term
already! Time really does fly! This week we are increasing our
knowledge of writing styles. This week we are learning how to write
procedures. Procedures are most often found in recipes and
instructions for things. The class will be writing clear
instructions on how to use their emergency equipment that they are
creating. You may have seen some of them pop up on Seesaw. In Maths
we are working on our final week of Time. The 6 times tables are of
particular importance to learning the concept of time. Keep up the
reading at home - it really is very important! Have a great
week.
Ms Connie
Echidna News… We have been busy bee’s in class this week learning
about the ‘ee’ sound and using this in our spelling. We have been
reading the book ‘The Very Cranky Bear’ and we have created some
artwork of some not-so-cranky bears using just forks and brown
paint as our tools. We had lots of fun in art this week! In Maths
we are learning about ‘Chance and Data’. This includes estimating
the likelihood of an event happening or not. In 1/2E we are
becoming masters at using tally marks to record data too. Just ask
your child and they will be able to show you.
