    6. Support Through the UN

India is one of the founder members of the UN and many of its specialized agencies.

India has full faith in the international organizations and agencies and firmly believes

in international peace and security. India does not support nuclear weapons and

want their elimination. The country also wanted considerable reduction in

    conventional weapons and armed forces.

India also sent a medical unit in the Korean war and always supports peace keeping

and contributed considerable amount of help to Egypt, Congo and Yugoslavia for

    peace keeping.

There are several other areas in which INdia has played a significant role in the

united nations, eg. it has played constantly positive and an energetic role indisarmament. It has also contributed in the areas of health, food, child welfare and

    improvement in conditions of people.

    7. Peaceful Settlement of International dispute

Disputes among nations are unavoidable. There can be only two methods of settling

international disputes - War or peaceful settlement. By the end of 1st world war

destruction had reached sorrowing heights. Peaceful settlement was an essential

goal to be achieved at that time. This includes direct negotiations, agreements,

    judicial decisions, and commitments etc.

India's foreign policy goal is peaceful settlement (pacific settlement)

Changing the foreign policy is very difficult.

    eg.

Even after strong views on certain topics given by A.B. Vajpayee, no significant

changes were made in the objectives and principles of India's foreign policy.
