Grey Casting Iron

The Industrial Standard in China requires the grey casting iron use the prefix HT. In

Chinese Pinyin, grey casting iron is Hui Tie. HT is the abbreviation of the Chinese Pinyin.

In the current standard, the 3 digits after HT mean the minimum tensile strength that

the grey casting iron is able to achieve in MPa. For example, HT 100 means the grey

casting iron can achieve at least 100 MPa of tensile strength.

Ductile Casting Iron

The Industrial Standard in China requires the ductile casting iron use the prefix QT. In

Chinese Pinyin, ductile casting iron is Qiu Tie. QT is the abbreviation of the Chinese

Pinyin.

In the current standard, the 3 digits after QT mean the minimum tensile strength that

the ductile casting iron is able to achieve in MPa. A 2-digit set after the three digits

means the percentile ductility. For example, QT 400 – 18 means the ductile casting iron

can achieve a minimum tensile strength of 400 MPa and an 18% elongation.
