Hello to all,
Exciting news! We are officially on “countdown” to move to our new
building. Please mark your calendars to attend the Grand Opening
ceremony of the William N. Pennington Life Center that will be sponsored
by Churchill County on June 27th at 10:30am at 952 South Maine Street.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony we will be serving lunch, including cake
to all those attending. Our Meals on Wheels program participants will also
be served the celebratory lunch in their homes allowing them to be part of
this very special day.
Our first day of business as the William N. Pennington Life Center is June
19, 2017. We will be serving our first cooked meal on this day. Hope you
can join us to eat and tour the new location. The next two weeks will be
well worth all the efforts put forth by all. We know there will be many
“little” bumps and changes in routine as we embark on this exciting
journey that will be taking us in many new directions. We will all need to
be patient and as I say daily, “Go with the Flow”. And just keep in mind
how wonderful it’s going to be in this brand new building and all the
possibilities for our future.
I would also like to invite you to attend a flag dedication ceremony for the
new flagpole on June 14 at 10:00am at William N. Pennington Life Center.
We are very fortunate to have this event take place on Flag Day. The
ceremony will be done by the local Elks Club. There will be no access to the
new building on this day, just the outside ceremony. Lunch will served
back at Senior Center at 11:30. Hope you can come.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments please remember
that we have a Suggestion Box available.
Happy moving. And thanks in advance for your patience and assistance.

The Clothes Dryer
Things you should never do to your clothes dryer!
Forget to Clean the Lint Trap: This is very easily forgotten. It is best
to clean out your dryer’s lint screen after every single load. Every six
months, you should run the screen under hot soapy water and use an
old toothbrush. Did you know that dryer sheets cause a film over the mesh on the screen that
may cause the heating unit to burn out and has the potentially to burn the house down.
Fail to Check the Venting Tube: The venting tubes must be clear of debris. This should be
done several times a year, such as quarterly, which may be easiest to remember. These tubes
are for allowing the heat to flow out and to escape. If the heat is unable to escape, you can
have an excess amount that can create a dangerous situation such as a fire in extreme cases.
You can use a 20 foot brush to clear the tubes, and there are also safety alarms that can alert
homeowners of problematic clogs in the venting tubes.
Have your machine standing on uneven ground: The dryer must be on level ground in order
to function properly. You can use a level to check the floors, and also use the instruction man-
ual that comes with the dryer to fix the dryer’s feet to provide stability.
Forget how many dryer sheets you have used: If too many sheets are used at one time, the
chemicals in them that are designed to soften fabric can leave a residue which could possibly
lead to clogs.
Use Vinyl Tubing: This product doesn’t meet current fire codes because it doesn’t have the
flexibility-texture of aluminum tubing. Available at most hardware stores is the proper tubing
called vent duct tubing
Keep the Dryer in a Tight Space: Dryers need extra room for air circulation. Without this,
you are at risk of fire or a malfunctioning appliance.
Leave the Vent Open to the Outside: Put a screen over the open vent. This open vent is an
invitation to wildlife to come on in and build a net.
Jam-Pack the Dryer: Overloading the Dryer can cause clothes to wrinkle, remain wet, and
can cause the Dryer to break down due to overworking the drum, bearings, and heating ele-
ments.

June Birthstone: Alexandrite, Pearl, and Moonstone
June Flower: Rose
Month Observances: National Safety Month and Men’s Health Month
June Special Days:
June 8th: World Ocean’s Day= In December of 2008, the United Nations General Assembly officially
proclaimed this day as World Ocean’s Day. This day is to celebrate our oceans, which generate most of
the oxygen that we breathe, feed us, and regulate the planet’s climate. We need to promote the
ocean’s contribution to life. There is a need to protect the ocean from harmful pollution, overexploita-
tion, destructive fishing, and climate change.
June 14th: Flag Day= In 1949, President Harry S. Truman signed a congressional decree, making this
day each year National Flag Day. On this day, Americans can celebrate the meaning of their nation’s
flag by honoring the traditions associated with its care and to educate those around them to the flag’s
significance. On June 14th, 1777, the Flag Resolution was signed making the current stars and stripes
the National Flag of the United States of America.
June 18th: Father’s Day= Father’s Day became a permanent federal holiday in 1972 when President
Richard Nixon proclaimed that the third Sunday in June would be further known as Father’s Day. This
day is to recognize, honor, and celebrate the sacrifices and accomplishments of fathers.
June 21st: Summer Solstice= Solstice comes from the Latin words for “sun” and “to stop”. This day
marks the beginning of the summer season in the Northern Hemisphere of the Earth. On this day plac-
es in the Northern Hemisphere experience the longest hours of sunlight throughout the year. The his-
tory for this day is rooted in both ancient mysticism and nature. Did you know, on this day, the North
Pole receives 24 hours of daylight, and the South Pole receives 24 hours of darkness!

On May 12th, we recruited 4 beautiful ladies to help judge a coloring contest put on by the
Banner Churchill Community Hospital. Banner Churchill would like to promote healthy
choices by offering a coloring contest to kindergarteners through third grade. There were
so many great pictures to choose from, it was a very tough choice to pick just one winner
from each grade.
Here is that Churchill
County High School
Student Council
again! Just a few
more pictures, and
another big thank
you for your gener-
