Transfiguration Catholic Church

Craig & Martha Sihner will be hosting coffee and donuts this Sunday after the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Stop by and enjoy the fellowship.

During Lent, Mass will begin without the usual proces-sion into the church. We ask the community to be quiet and meditate in silence five minutes before Mass. As we have done in the past, our Lent is also an invitation to our children to share their pennies with the poor. We ask our children to come up and drop their donation in the “Pennies for the Poor” jar when the ushers are taking up the collection for the community at large. You are also invited to join the parish community in pray-ing the Stations of the Cross and Benediction on all the Fridays of Lent at 7:30 p.m.

Dear Parishioners, Lent is a season in which we prepare for Easter, the high point of the Christian year. Over the centuries, Lent has become a special time for fasting, abstinence, communal and private prayer, self-discipline, serving others, study, reflection, and penance. The whole Church re-examines its priorities, to leave sin and self-love behind and inten-sify our love and service of God and others. This conversion requires changes both in our inner atti-tudes and our outer actions. Just as Jesus confronted the powers of evil that held his world in their grasp, so we too must get involved in that struggle to eliminate evil’s domination over us and our lives. Every day we must make the hard choice to eliminate evil and bring good. If we each begin to refuse to introduce any new evil and injustice into the world, then the kingdom of God that Jesus envisioned, preached, and died for would start right now to become a reality for ourselves and those around us. So this Lent let us take a look in the mirror each morning and tell ourselves that now, with God’s help, “the evil stops here”. God Bless You, Fr. Mario L. Borges

LETTER FROM POPE FRANCIS THE “JOY OF THE GOSPEL” CONTINUED...

The Proclamation of the Gospel—#226

Unity Prevails Over Conflict

Conflict cannot be ignored or concealed. It has to be faced. But if we remain trapped in conflict, we lose our perspective, our hori-zons shrink and reality itself begins to fall apart. In the midst of conflict, we lose our sense of the profound unity of reality.

Fr. Terry’s Remarks— Unity over Conflict all the time. We cannot avoid being different. After all each of us, we keep telling our-selves, is special! unique! That being so, the grounds for conflict are indeed many. We have to constantly acknowledge that we will differ, then, we have to decide how to resolve our differences in ways that are beneficial. Allowing ourselves to get mired in conflict damages us all, sometimes profoundly. When we witness two brothers fighting we all lose sight of their brotherhood, none more than themselves. It is tragic.
