Twinned Parish News

Mass Time SwitchOn April 22, the Sunday Mass times will be switched between the two parishes for Assumption’s 1st Communion Mass. St. Anthony will have Mass at 8:00 AM and Assumption will have Mass at 10:00 AM.

Vocations PrayerIn response to the great need for priests and religious vocations in our church we will be praying the Vocations Prayer, found on the blue card on the inside cover of your missalette, together at each Mass after the intersessions. This is a great way to offer more prayer and to bring more attention to the beautiful vocational life in the church.

A Message from Father Aaron “O’ Sacrament Most Holy”

Dear brothers and sisters,“Peace be with you!” It is great to be back after

spending a week away visiting friends and family, catching up on some rest and prayer, taking in a Minnesota Timberwolves game with my brother (they won!) and actually playing in the annual Priest vs. Seminarian Basketball game in St. Paul. We ended up winning on a last-second basket, and I don’t like to brag…but…I must admit it was by your pastor… I am sure I benefited from some Easter graces to help guide the ball through the hoop! It was, however, a great event to promote vocations and bring the young families and kids together.

While I was visiting with my brother, I realized that he and his wife are preparing for their oldest son, Jacob, to receive his First Communion in a few short weeks. It reminded me of the special time it is for our own First Communicants and parents as our children receive Jesus’ living and substantial presence under the simple for of bread and wine for the very first time.

The Gospel today explains how Jesus was truly made know into his disciples who were doubting his presence after his resurrection, “Jesus was made known to them in the breaking of bread.” Jesus relieves their doubts and anxieties by revealing his true Eucharistic presence in the Holy Mass offered by Christ. Today, as many centuries ago, Jesus still makes himself present and known under the simple form of bread and wine, each and every time Mass is offered. “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.” 1Cor. 11:26

The Eucharist is our most sacred and precious gift in the Church, and it is very important that we regularly come to this great Feast to receive the Lord’s strength, consolation, peace and increased knowledge and faith in Christ’s true presence. God now calls the parents and godparents of our dear children to be faithful with the gifts that they have received and take their children to Mass each Sunday for this one hour prayer of gratitude that we are able to offer to the Lord of Heaven and Earth. What could more important than this blessed gathering each Sunday?

May we all pray that this Divine Gift of the Eucharist be increasingly honored and adored throughout whole world, and most especially by our First Communicants and families.“Sacrament most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving, Be every moment Thine!”

May God bless you, Father Aaron

The parishes of Assumption and St. Anthony’s are hiring a full-time Director of Religious Education and Youth Ministry. This individual, in collaboration with the Pastor, will primarily provide direction, plan and oversee a program of catechesis and evangelization for children and youth (pre-K-12), and help to engage families in the faith formation of their children. The candidate will also lead and oversee the Youth Ministry program in the parishes which will engage young students in their faith through programming and relationship building. This person must be a practicing Catholic with a love for the Church and her teachings and a desire to spread the love of Christ to others. A complete job posting can be found on both parishes’ websites.

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

Why are you troubled? Life can easily get the best of us. Anxiety, worry, doubt, and uneasiness are just some of the things that can trouble our hearts. Often we are troubled about temporal things. Sometimes our faith troubles us and we wonder where God may be. If we allow Jesus to open our minds so we can understand the Scriptures and the significance of his passion, death, and resurrection, we can begin to trust that God's plan includes something much more than the current concern of our minds. Jesus can then become a light of revelation who helps us keep our lives in perspective and persevere.

Traveling Chalice and MadonnaALL TOO OFTEN we forget to express appreciation to those in service-oriented jobs, including priests, sisters and brothers. We forget because we think “it’s their job to help.” Priests and religious aren’t superhuman. They need genuine support from those they serve. Let them know how you feel! Sincere appreciation to Bob & Judy Haag of Assumption and Norb & Michelle Kramer of St. Anthony’s for hosting the Travel Chalice & Madonna this week.
