THE DEEP END: Jesus the healer In today s gospel we read about Jesus first healing in Mark s Gospel. Jesus hears of the illness of the mother of Simon s wife and goes to her. Due to the purity laws of his time this scene would have been considered controversial. His first healing is of a woman and we are told that he touches her, raises her up; he completely restores her to health. Many of his actions here would be considered taboo. The whole city was crowded around the door as people wanted to also be healed. What a commotion! Jesus, very early on in his ministry, is clearly a very popular, attractive figure. Jesus is the healer. We might ask ourselves today: who do we know who is in need of healing of any kind? This week, how can we reach out to them? Another important aspect of this story is that Jesus does not remain comfortable in this house. He keeps moving, keeps going outward. This requires so much energy and an outpouring of love for those in need. Jesus shows us in to- day s gospel what it takes for our connected, to re-energise ourselves for our various tasks: quiet time and space for real encounter with God. Even then, the people hunted for him. Everyone is searching for you and still today, everyone is searching. It is up to all of us to help those on this journey, the seekers, the lost and those in need of healing. We cannot break new ground unless we are inwardly free and connected to that divine presence within us and in our world. - Jane Mellett [email protected] Parents Information Night for Teen Hope with details as follows: Sundays 11 th & 25 th February &11 th & 25 th March ,Time : 7 - 8.30pm. This Week In the Golden Ball no less that s where

we met this year for the Prayer for Chris-tian Unity. Rev. Rob Clements, the Rector

of Kilternan Church of Ireland considered

that we should bring the event into a public space so that we

might give witness to the world of our efforts to pray together

and to enjoy each other s presence. It was a great experience

and from it came the decision to write a letter to our public

representatives about Direct Provision.

Catholic Schools Week was highlighted in the liturgies on

Sunday . Our teachers staff and children were all prayed for.

The Parish of Balally is blessed to have two excellent schools.

So much more going on

Congratulations to David Byrne and the Dublin senior football team on their League victory over Kildare. David played well on a team where there is fierce competition for places. Con-gratulations also to Eoin Foley, Tom Keane and Adam Byrne who have been selected on the Dublin under 20 football pan-el. Eoin Foley played at right half back on the Dublin Minor hurling team in 2015 and 2016 while Tom and Adam have both played minor football for Dublin. Richard Horgan, Fran O Dwyer, James Hughes and Anthony Daly are the senior hurling management team for 2018. There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot. The numbers drawn were 3, 24 and 29 This week s Jackpot is €2200.

Christ who heals us The fever left her and she began to wait on them. One of the

lovely features of the Gospels is the number of healing stories they contain. Nothing is too big or too small to bring to Jesus. He raised Lazarus from the dead; he healed Peter s mother-in-law from a fever. That same Jesus is with us and among us with the same power and the same longing, to heal us into wholeness. All we have to do is ask him for what we need for ourselves and for one another and know that he will answer. We all need his healing power in so far as we set limits to our love for one another because his great commandment is to love. Husbands and wives often need to stretch their love into

forgiveness if they are to go forward together. Parents need to grow in understanding of their children. And in our parish, we need Christ s power to help us to take true responsibility for those in need. Johnny Doherty CSsR
