Acts 4:32–35; 1 Jn 5:1–6; Jn 20:19–31The painting The Embrace, by Pedro Cano, is a power-
ful image of paternal love and union. It recalls the historicmoment when St. John Paul II, at the Mass of his eleva-tion to the papacy, embraced his lifelong mentor, StefanCardinal Wyszyński. The painting is a moment frozen intime that represents something much bigger than theevent that inspired it.
The two figures are barely distinguishable. They seemto be fused, like two figures carved out of one piece ofmarble. It is the mutual love of giving and receiving thatmakes this exchange so moving. Indeed, it reminds us ofthe embrace of love we seek in this life from our lovedones as well as in eternal life. There is no distance be-tween them, rancor, or questioning—only the total happi-ness of being united with a friend.
The popeʼs strong, broad shoulders are penetrated bythe grasping hands of the one embraced. There is aclenching need to find security in the other. We all searchfor love, forgiveness, and for strength we do not find inourselves. We wish our faith were stronger but, the truthis, we need to be constantly turning to God for his mercy.
Yet, he is pleased to be our rock upon which we lean, the one we can touch in our doubt. Turn to him in need, for he is happy to save you from the trials of this life. Hewants to be the risen one who restores our faith. He re-joices that we need him and return to him.

Second Sunday of Easter or
Sunday of Divine Mercy
April 8, 2018
Divine Mercy Sunday was officially established in 2000 by
Pope John Paul II to be celebrated each year on the Octave
Day of Easter, the eighth day of Easter. Today we rejoice in
the gift of God’s mercy that Jesus offered to the whole world
through his cross and resurrection. Let us thank God for that
mercy and pray for the grace to extend that mercy to one
another.

I have called you by name, you are mine” Isaiah 43:1
Is God calling you? Do you want to learn more about the Catholic Faith? Are you interested in becoming part of our Catholic family?
The RCIA Process (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process by which those interested in becoming a Roman Catholic Christian learn about our faith. Through interviews, classes and discussions, adults are prepared to accept the challenge of our baptism and encouraged to live the message and teachings of Jesus Christ. The RCIA process is also for those Catholics who have not been educated in our faith and have not received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Communion.
If you, or some one you know is interested in determining if God is calling you to be part of our faith community, please contact the Rectory office at 718-335-2626 to set up an appointment with one of our Priests.
