The blessing we experience in Christ Jesus is proclaimed in Numbers as the special blessing for the people of Israel. They and we are to be blessed by the invocation of God’s loving kindness,
the shining glory of God’s face turned toward us in love, not away from us in anger. We are blessed by God’s own peace!
Our wish and our hope are fulfilled in this blessing, which is made visible in the coming of Jesus. In Jesus, the image of the invisible God, God’s face is shown to us and God’s presence is

Be a part of a national conversation about Hispanic presence and ministry in our
Catholic communities. Every Catholic parish in the country is invited to be a part of a two-year-long process of reflection and dialogue about pastoral planning to respond more creatively to the Hispanic presence in the Church. The Archdiocese is seeking 2-4 representatives from each parish to attend a training workshop on January 21, and then to lead our parish in their part of this reflection and dialogue. Parish leaders will have input at an Archdiocesan conference in the Fall of 2017. That input will contribute to regional and national Encuentro Conferences in 2018. The entire process is bilingual (English-Spanish), so don’t let language be an obstacle to participating! If you are interested in representing our parish in this process, please contact Maryann Tyrer at the parish center as soon as possible so we can register you for the January 21 workshop.
Our First Family Mass of the New Year will be celebrated on Saturday, January 7th at 5:30 PM. We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate all families

January 1st, 2016 “Octave” comes from the Latin word for “eight,” and since eight is one step beyond seven, the number of days in a week, it has long been seen as a symbol of perfection, completion, and new beginnings. Early Christians called Sunday the “eighth day,” since it was the day after the Sabbath and a day of resurrected life, the Lord’s Day. By the seventh century, people regarded the eight days after Easter Sunday as one great day, an octave, one glorious feast when people were forbidden to fast or kneel. In the seventh century, Pentecost acquired an Octave, too. Christmas didn’t claim the honor of a continuous feast, but it did get an Octave Day. January 1 is the oldest Marian feast, the Octave of Christmas. It was originally a feast of the motherhood of Mary, although for centuries until 1969 it was called the Feast of the Circumcision. Dear Lord, We pray that this New Year will bring us closer to You.
May we take the time to get to know You. Help us to truly celebrate the gifts You have graciously given us
and use them to serve You and spread Your word,
May we also see and love you in all the people we meet, so that in turn, they can see You in us.
We know that all human relations take time if they are to grow and deepen.
This is also true of our relations with You, the Father and the Holy Spirit,
which must grow over the course of our lives. In this new year,
let us realize that every action of ours no matter how great or small
enables us to be in touch with You. Let us accept You in our lives,
in the way it pleases You, as Truth, to be spoken,
as Life, to be lived, as Light, to be lighted, as Love, to be followed,
as Joy, to be given, as Peace, to be spread about,
as Sacrifice, to be offered among our relatives, friends, neighbors and all people.
Amen.
