Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Teresa Church, Let me start with the wonderful news that we began to offer public Masses in our church last Monday, and will continue to do so every day, please God! Weekday Masses are very popular with people who are trying to be holy. Listening to the Word of God at Mass and receiving the Body of Christ in Holy Communion is something that some parishioners want to do several times a week or even every day. Perhaps this is an invitation for you too? Our daily Masses take a half hour or less, and provide people with contact with God and an opportunity for receiving strength and comfort and peacefulness. Some of your days are too busy. Some are too empty. Many people have discovered that a weekday Mass makes many of those days better and happier. Especially if you are pondering a big decision, or carrying a heavy cross, or trying to follow through on a promise to pray for someone you know who needs divine help - bring that to Mass, to Jesus on the altar, for divine assistance. Daily Mass-goers pray for others, not just themselves. Spouses and children and grandchildren need love - and praying is loving. Families have arguments, neighbors have fights, alcohol and drugs disrupt lives and families, strangers harm one another There are always people and things to pray for! We all should be praying for our nation, and for the wisdom of voters and of our elected officials, and for respect for human life, from conception through all the years to natural death. And let us pray for the survival of the sick and for a vaccine to protect us from the novel coronavirus that remains such a threat, not just to sports and games, but to health and prosperity and education. We have daily Mass on Monday at 8:30am, followed by Miraculous Medal Novena prayers. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we have Mass at 8:30am and 12 Noon. Every Saturday we have Mass at 8:30, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation (known also as Penance and as Confession) is offered from Noon to 1pm in the sac-risty at the front of the church, in the room where the priest gets ready for Mass, near the statue of Saint Joseph. So now you know about weekday Masses. Let me highlight the times when we have Masses on Sunday, the Day of the Lord's Resurrection. We have a Sunday Vigil Mass each Saturday at 4pm. That 4pm Mass is one of our biggest Masses of the weekend, and so we have decided that this will be the Mass that our parish will live-stream each week. Once we have everything set up, people will be able to watch this Mass as it happens on Saturday afternoon - or, watch it that night or on Sunday at whatever time is good for them. I thank my technical teammates - Rich Nellis, Lisa Rametta, and John Lauria - for encouraging me and planning how to get this complicated task in order. Right now, we need Spectrum to increase the strength of our internet con-nection in the church so that the signal goes out reliably and clearly. This Mass will be a boon for the sick and home-bound. But there are others who will see this as well. My hope: some people will watch who have been missing, and many who have been missing will get hungry to come and share the whole Eucharistic meal. One more thing to know is why we have a change of place in our Sunday schedule. Right now, government rules say that to protect us from infection by crowding together, only 25% of capacity can be occupied. For our church, with 500 seats, that means that only 125 people can attend a Mass right now. Our St. Nicholas Chapel in Sunnyside - with 150 seats - allows us less than 40 people. That is so much less than the 100+ who often attend the chapel Mass. We would be turning so many away. So, I think you will agree: it is a good decision to temporarily transfer the 9am Mass from the Chapel to the Church. We will go back to the Chapel when we can use all its seats. By now you may be saying: tell us the times already!! Alright! If you are feeling fine and know that Sunday is the Lord's Day and are not nervous or unable to come to the Eucharistic banquet, join us for a Saturday Mass at 4pm, or on Sunday at 7:30, 9:00, 10:30, 12:30, or 5:00, all in St. Teresa Church. Our parish's excellent Director of Music, Mr. Edward Morand, will be playing the organ, and a cantor who will lead us in song at most Masses. Some final words about what is new at Mass because of the virus. Your health and safety are our priority. Please protect yourself and others from passing along that invisible sickness. Among the effective practices, please: * sit only where you see orange tape on the pew tops; family members can sit together * wear a mask all the time you are in church, except when receiving Holy Communion * we are omitting processions, the sign of peace, and Holy Communion on the tongue * we were instructed to remove all missalettes and hymnals * practice social distancing of six feet or more from one another * use our sanitizing stations in the vestibule to cleanse your hands * leave happily, and remember that waving and blowing kisses is the best we can do for now. Respectfully yours in Jesus Christ, Msgr. William Belford
