Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Teresa Church, Although many of our usual readers will not be picking up a bulletin this Sunday, we are producing this edition for those who can read it online - saintteresasi.org - and for those who may come for a pri-vate visit in the church, which will be open for personal prayer each day from 7:30am to 4:30pm. As we learned this week, all Masses in our archdiocese have been canceled, in accord with medical advice and public policy about limiting people being together, in order to protect people from receiving and/or transmitting the coronavirus that that has become a world-wide epidemic. The Church has always given permission to miss Mass to people who are sick, or in a storm. We certainly are in a storm now, and we must be wise and good in order to protect those around us and to stay safe ourselves. So: Cardinal Dolan has instructed us priests that we may not offer any public Mass for the immediate future. This is a complete change from our usual habits, and a sadness for everyone. As you tell us, we tell you: we miss you! Sunday did not seem like Sunday! But for awhile we must give up our usual Eucharistic consolation and pray fervently at home for a swift resolution of this threat to our health, our lives, and our worship. His Eminence urges us to make every Sunday a day of prayer even if we cannot be in a church. Look for a Mass on cable TV or listen to the Catholic Channel 129 of Sirius satellite radio. Watch NET TV (97 on Spectrum) and see Mass each day. The Catholic Faith Network (www.catholicfaithnetwork.org) and EWTN are other sources of spiritual inspiration and connection with the universal Church. When circumstances prevent you from receiving Holy Communion, you can receive grace by making an Act of Spiritual Communion. This shows an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament even when you cannot attend a Mass. Here is a prayer from the Church’s treasury for these occasions:
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there, and I unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
Cardinal Dolan held a informative teleconference for priests and deacons Wednesday afternoon, and emphasized that as much as we would like to get back to Sunday and weekday Masses, for the protection of vulnerable people, especially seniors and those who already have health problems, we must cancel all our usual services. It is too soon to know how long this will go on. The best way to stay well is to stay away from others, One example: we can do funeral Masses, but with a very limited number of mourners. Just as many of our families need a paycheck each week, your parish counts on a Sunday collection to pay our expenses. I hope many will help us make up for the baskets that will be empty for weeks. But please also think about using this crisis to make your Sunday contributing easier and more dependable. You can do this by joining other parishioners who use WeShare. If you have a computer, check it out. It is easy. Follow these steps: 1. Go to our parish website: www.saintteresasi.org. 2. Scroll down to a cute little church and see “Give Online.” 3. Go to Primary Church Collection and then Recurring Church Collec-tion. 4. Think about a percentage of your income, and enter the amount you want to give. Money can be deducted safely from bank accounts and credit cards, under your control and as you see fit. Many people do this already. I think that having more people join us in this practice is important for our future. Keeping the faith while we wait for the danger to diminish and our Mass doors to be opened,
Msgr. William Belford

ST. TERESA SCHOOL AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS CLOSED UNTIL AT LEAST APRIL 20
REMINDER FROM OUR SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
Dear St. Teresa Families,
Our school closure has been extended to April 20th. Your child’s teacher is planning and preparing activities and assignments for these coming weeks. Please check your child’s Homework Link or Google Classroom daily. Students are to complete all assigned work and to bring work to school when we return. Thank You. Stay safe and God Bless you.
Mrs. Rita Azzopardi
In accord with the Cardinal’s directions to protect people from infection, in-person religious education programs, ordinary
meetings and youth activities are suspended indefinitely.
+ MASS INTENTIONS
It is sobering to see the first page of requested Mass intentions blank. Please be assured that
when we can resume public Masses, the announced Masses for these present weeks
will be rescheduled.
Prayer to the Virgin Mary for Protection O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey
as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick.
At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’ pain, with steadfast faith.
We are certain that you will provide, as you did at Cana of Galilee.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the Father’s will
and to do what Jesus tells us. May He who took our sufferings upon Himself,
and bore our sorrows, bring us through the Cross to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.
The winner of our February 50/50 Drawing were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Granello. The prize was $192. If you would like to participate in this monthly activity that benefits our parish and makes people happy,
look for the 50/50 envelopes in the vestibule. The next drawing will be at the end of March.
St. Teresa’s Bereavement Group Meetings of our St. Teresa Bereavement Group has been suspended until further notice. All partic-ipants were notified of this change. Deacon Novel-la will contact you when the meetings resume.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE SOMEONE WHO CAN LISTEN?
Everyone goes through crises sometimes. When that is happening, we can benefit from a conversation
with a professional counselor who shares our Catholic perspective.
Our parish can make a connection for you with the Archdiocese of New York's
PARISH COUNSELING NETWORK. Our parishioners can make an appointment to meet
with a professional counselor on Staten Island or any-place in the Archdiocese, for up to six meetings, with
only a $10 co-pay per session. This can be arranged easily. Tell one of our priests that you want to talk with a counselor. He will contact the PARISH COUNSELING NETWORK on your
behalf, and then you can call and arrange your first visit with someone who can listen.
Our Golden Age Society The trip on April 18-20 to Mystic Seaport has been canceled, as many events have been. Because we meet only when school is open, our Monday meetings will not be held until
April 20 at the earliest.
