FOR ALL OF US:

Friday, January 22 is a

Day of Penance and Prayer

On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court of the United States issued a ruling in the Roe v. Wade case that imposed abortion-on-demand throughout our land. This decision has enabled the liquidation of about 58 million pre-born children in America through chemical and surgical abortions, not counting the grief of their mothers (and fathers) and the subversion of American medicine and science. Moreover, the ruling provided a legal basis for a “culture of death” (St. John Paul II) in America, as death and dehumanization become solutions embraced for today’s problems, whether via abortion, euthanasia, unjust war, “enhanced interrogation techniques” (in other words, torture, e.g. waterboarding), embryonic stem-cell research, infanticide, neglect and abuse of the poor and needy, or “entertainment” such as the video games Assassin‘s Creed and Grand Theft Auto. The grotesque recent videos of Planned Parenthood’s commerce in the organs and parts of murdered preborn children add a dimen-sion once imaginable only to certain writers and producers of dystopian science fiction.

To offer penance to Almighty God, Who judges nations as well as individuals, for affronts to the dignity of the human per-son due to abortion and to pray for the full restoration of the legal right to life, the Catholic bishops of the U.S.A. ask us to observe Friday, January 22 this year as a day of prayer and penance. Whether or not you go with our delegation to Washing-ton that day, you are welcome at our Mass that morning at 5 a.m. in the church. No Mass or Holy Hour will be held that eve-ning. Live that day with a Lenten attitude, to pray more with the pro-life theme and to make greater sacrifice (e.g. if not meat, then soap operas, video games, text messages, Snapchat, Wishbone, Twitter, popular music, or dancing). Kyrie, eleison! Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the pro-life cause, pray for and with us!

For YOU: a Gift that

keeps on Giving

Take and use your box of enve-lopes for 2016! Individually labeled boxes are placed on tables in the back of the church. No box for you there? Then enroll on the list on the table close to the kiosk or call the rectory to register in our parish! 2016 parish calendars are available too in the back of the church.
