My dear friends,

I hope that you and your families are doing well. I have been thinking about the second reading from Saint Paul to the Corinthians that we read last week. It said: “I urge you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and in the same purpose.” (1 Cor 1:10-13, 17). I believe God is asking us not to look at our differences, but to look at Him. Jesus is the gift of unity we need. I am convinced that if you and I start placing Je-sus at the center of our lives, our families and communities will change. We will become more united because the Spirit of Jesus will be among us. You and I are called to build up our Church community, our Church family.

This past week, was Catholic Schools Week and, personally, I had a lot of fun at the school. A teacher found me a nice pair of “dragon” pajamas which I wore for Pajama Day. This was more than a surprise for students and teachers. A student named my pajamas “Dragon Priest Pajamas” (You can see this in the picture above). I was also able to enjoy a pancake breakfast with the students. On another occasion I was able to show off to the students my moves by dancing with them to “Move and Freeze”. We all had fun while talking about God and coloring as well.

I would like to share with you a poem based on Psalm 133:1. This poem speaks about the gift of unity. “How very good and pleasant it is when people live together in unity. When forgiveness oils the wheels of relationships, when kindness is the currency. When understanding is the language that is learned, when issues can be aired and faced honestly, when friendship is nurtured above differences. How very good and pleasant it is when people live together in unity. When food is shared, and bread and wine brings us together, when we find in Jesus there is no rich or poor, privileged or marginalized, when hope and peace wash away grudges and the desire to get even. How very good and pleasant it is when people live together in unity.

I am so happy to be part of this Church family. I hope and pray we can always be united in God’s love and become true disciples of Christ, disciples that listen to the Word of God and disciples that do the will of God.

Love, Fr. Carlos

NEWS AND EVENTS

Special Blessings: A couple of weeks ago, we concluded our Christmas season with the celebration of the Baptism of the Lord by John the Baptist, so it was fitting that we wel-comed back with great joy over 35 families whose children were baptized in 2019 with a special blessing at the 10:30am and 12 noon Masses! It was also an opportunity for all of us present to remember and renew our own baptismal promises as a faith-filled community and to rejoice in the gift of life and in God’s abundant love for each of us.

Please see the following important announcement from Cardinal Tobin regarding Archbishop Emeri-tus John Joseph Myers

*******************************

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

The physical and mental health of the Archbishop emer-itus John Joseph Myers has suffered a serious decline.

After a recent visit with his family in central Illinois, Archbishop Myers decided to remain in the region of his birth where he is receiving specialized care and can be visited by his family as well as the clergy of the Diocese of Peoria.

I ask all the faithful in our Archdiocese to pray for Arch-bishop Myers that the mercy of God comfort and strengthen him in this moment of fragility.

The Archdiocese has begun preparation for the sale of his retirement residence in Hunterdon County. After members of his family have collected his personal pos-sessions, the home and property will be sold and the funds will be returned to the Archdiocese.

Sincerely yours in Christ the Redeemer, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R.
