TAKE AN EXTRA COPY OF THE BULLETIN FOR NEIGHBORS, FAMILY, AND FRIENDS!

OUR CHURCH IS OPEN DAILY FROM 6AM TO 6PM.

Confessions will be heard on Saturday from 11am-12pm in the sacristy. Enter through the left side of the sacristy through the door near the Blessed Mother Statue. For privacy wait inside the church in line for others to exit before you proceed to the sacristy.

REMEMBER TO PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING AT MASS.

LEAVE AT LEAST ONE PEW BETWEEN YOU AND THE PERSON NEAREST TO YOU.

October 7th is the day we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. It also is the

Patronal Feast of our parish. We love our

Blessed Mother and seek her assistance in the

events of our lives. We want to mark our

Lady’s Feast by making a promise to pray

special prayers together at home as a family

each day beginning on September 29th and

concluding on Mary’s Feast Day; October 7th.

We will make available a printed copy of a

special Novena to Our Lady of Victories for

you to take home. It will also be available on

the website and on our Facebook page. This is

something families can do at home perhaps in

the evening after supper to honor our Blessed

Mother and consecrate ourselves to her

    maternal care.

  • Twenty-Sixth Sunday in the Ordinary Time

Jesus seems to be offering two lessons in today’s account from Matthew’s Gospel. The first reveals God’s willingness to forgive the sinner who repents. Once a person turns away from sin and returns to the Lord, forgiveness comes immediately. The second lesson is for those who are self-righteous and critical of others. The Pharisees criticized Jesus for associating with tax collectors and prostitutes. To their surprise Jesus informs them that tax collectors and prostitutes will be saved before them.

Judgment is for God alone. His posture is always one of mercy. He is ready to embrace with His forgiveness the worst sinner who comes back to Him. Like the story of the Prodigal Son, The Father runs to meet the son who realizes his sin and returns home.

As followers of Jesus, we have much cause for hope. When we sin, we need not despair but rather humble ourselves and come to the Lord. The system He established for us to relieve ourselves of the burden of guilt is the Sacrament of Penance. By making a good confession, we return to the Lord’s fold to find peace and joy. This lesson of unconditional forgiveness is meant to teach us how to deal with one another. Forgiving like God forgives brings joy not only to the other, but to us as well.

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • We should spend as much time in

thanking God for his benefits as we do in asking him for them – St. Vincent de

Paul Our society is named for the patron of all works of charity - Saint Vincent de Paul. His feast day is this Sunday, September 27th. St. Vincent founded three organizaons dedicated to helping the poor in the 1600’s. He dedicated his life to serve the poor in Paris, France. He died days aer his 60th anniversary as a priest. He is known as “Father of the Poor”. Our first general meeng of our new year is this Monday, September 28th at 7:30 in MDH. This is our first meeng since Covid19. We will be wearing masks and sing apart to be safe. New members are welcome. Our food pantry is well supplied because of your generosity. Please leave non-perishable food donaons in baskets at the church entrances. Thank you for your connued generosity. Our coat and blanket drive is the weekend of October 10th and 11th. We greatly appreciate any donaons of coats, jackets, blankets, and hats. All donated items must be new or gently used. Please, clean items only. No work of charity is foreign to our society. In the name of Christ we are here to help and to serve. Please put us to work. If you or someone you know is truly in need, please contact us through the parish office. (732) 257-0077.

    Sayreville LIFE CHAIN 2020

    WHEN: Sunday, October 4th 2:00 – 3:30pm

    WHERE: Washington Road, Sayreville

    (see below for details)

Dear OLV Families! In an effort to make a greater statement on the value of every human life from conception to natural death, we are inviting you to join with us in the National Life Chain, to be held on Respect Life Sunday, October 4th, 2020. Here in the Sayreville location, the event will take place from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm, on Washington Road from Sayreville High School, up past the Library and Middle School, over the hill and past the Knights of Columbus, hopefully as far as the number of participants will reach. Life Chain is a peaceful, prayerful, silent demonstration, in which people of all faiths stand and hold signs such as “Life is Precious.” We DO NOT INTERACT with any possible negativity from passers-by. Signs will be available at the high school and K of C at no charge—we just ask that you kindly return them for use again next year. Life Chain is held rain or shine, so please dress accordingly, and you may certainly bring a chair if you cannot stand for that length of time.

“Be a voice for the voiceless!” Our Lady of Victories Respect Life Group & Knights of Columbus Council 2061
