From the Desk of Father Jonathan
Happy Easter! Jesus has risen from the dead and has given us, in his resurrection, the ultimate evidence that God has conquered sin and death forever!!
You all have inspired me so much this Lent. I have been moved by how many of you have shared with me your Lenten commitments. In fact, after the first week of Lent, having heard so many of your commitments, I had to re-evaluate my own Lenten commitments and step up my plans in order to meet the standard that many of you set.
I generally don’t share publicly what I do for Lent so as to keep it between me and the Lord, but I can tell you that some of you encouraged me, by your personal ex-ample, to focus my Lenten commitments on doing good for people rather than on simply giving up things. This wasn’t easy for me. When I give something up my Lent can still be mostly about me and my spiritual growth. Since you helped me to focus my love for God on loving others I had to leave myself and my spiritual goals on the side.
This new focus on others made for a great Lent! I am so grateful to God for his resurrection and his new man-date to us to repent and live for him and for others.
If Christ has risen from the dead—something no human can do on his own power—then his message to us of repentance and salvation is true.
This resurrection invites me to say over and over again a prayer that my dad taught me as a kid, the “Jesus Prayer”. “Lord Jesus Christ, son of the living God, have mercy on me, a sinner”.
And this is exactly what Jesus does; he has mercy on us, he forgives us, and never tires of forgiving us.
Thank you for being such wonderful examples to me of Christian living. Thank you for teaching me, your shep-herd in this parish, how to be a better follower of Jesus, the only truly Good Shepherd, who laid down his life so that we could live forever!
Happy Easter!! Father Jonathan

PROCLAIM THE RISEN CHRIST On Easter morning everything—the spring weather, the flowers, birds and butterflies, the people around us in their finery, the beautiful liturgy and music—everything seems to bear witness that Jesus Christ is risen today! Like the eyewitness accounts in today’s scriptures, the glorious and joyful life all around us helps us to believe the good news of the Resurrection and sing “Alleluia!” In the scriptures today we hear from Peter and Paul and John. All three speak with conviction about witnessing the resurrected Christ. John’s Gospel account includes Mary of Magdala, who also was privileged to witness the Resurrection and tell others the good news. On this glorious Easter Sunday can we ourselves give eyewitness accounts that Jesus Christ is risen today, alive and active in our lives?

© lachiesa.it
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The Paschal Mystery is the key to our Christian faith: the dying and rising of Jesus that is the pattern of our life. In their first steps on the road of faith, the cate-chumens feel the cross of glory traced over their eyes, on their lips, across their shoulders, on their ears, over their heart, and on their feet. The mystery is that even death gives way to life for those who are held in the em-brace of Jesus. Today, many new Christians arise from the waters of the font. Yet the font is not the destination of their journey. The goal is Pentecost, fifty days from now, and a lifetime of praise to the Father, in Christ, in the embrace of the Holy Spirit, for the sake of the world. “Neophyte,” our ancient word for newly-baptized peo-ple, means “newly-planted” in Greek. If someone in your parish has just been baptized, welcome them today. The smiles on their faces and the light in the eyes is a foretaste of heaven.
