SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptisms for children take place in Spanish on the third Saturday of the month and in English on the second Saturday of the month. Parents must register the child at the Rectory at least one month in advance.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION Saturdays at 4:30 pm (English) & 6:30 pm (Spanish)

SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Couples should make appointment with a priest at least six months before the wedding date.

SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK Please inform a priest whenever anyone is seriously ill. In case of emergency, the Rectory should be called at any time.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION All children after the age of five can be registered into our Reli-gious Education Program which begins every year in September. Religious instructions are given on Sundays at 11:15 am.

REGISTRATION IN THE PARISH Parishioners are invited to register as active members in the Parish Office to receive the Parish Envelopes.

SACRAMENTO DEL BAUTISMO Los bautizos se llevan a cabo en Español el tercer Sábado del mes y en Inglés el segundo sabado de mes. Los padres deben registrar a su niño en la Rectoria un mes antes de bautismo.

SACRAMENTO DEL MATRIMONIO Las parejas deben hacer cita con el sacerdote por lo menos seis meses antes de la boda.

SACRAMENTO DE LA UNCION DE LOS ENFERMOS Favor de informar al sacerdote cuando alguien está enfermo. En caso de emergencia llame a la Rectoria a cualquier hora.

CATECISMO Todos los niños despues de cinco años pueden ser registrados en el Programa del Catecismo que comienza cada año en Septiem-bre. Las clases de Catecismo son los Domingos a las 11:15 AM.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Today Lent begins. Ash Wednesday initiates the forty days of the Lenten fast, but since Sundays are not tallied in the days of fasting, today is the solemn opening of the forty days of Lent. The Church has work to do today, principally the calling forward of those chosen (the proper word is elected) for the Easter sacraments. Some of those who have been catechumens may now make a transition to a new way of life as the “elect.” For them, this Lent will be a time of “purification” and “enlightenment.” For us who accompany them, it is a time of helping them discern God’s call and prepare for new life. This year, while the readings from the third year of the Lectionary cycle are usually read, they are set aside on certain Sundays for the benefit of the elect. We turn then to the readings from Year A, and we give those who journey to the font of baptism three extraordinary companions. In the Gospels for those days, we meet the woman of Samaria and the man born blind, and we come to the tomb of Lazarus three days after his death. Many bishops celebrate the Rite of Election on or near today, affirming God’s choice for these new faithful, and also offering them the solidarity of many companions. In 2013, over 38,000 adults entered the baptismal waters in the United States, a remarkable testimony to the vigor of our tradition of receiving and nurturing adult faith. -Rev. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Las cenizas que se nos pusieron en la frente el miércoles pasado ya están borradas, pero las palabras que nos dijeron deben sonar aún en nuestras almas. Tradicionalmente se dice: "Recuerda que del polvo venimos y al polvo retornaremos." Y aunque hoy en muchos lugares se dice: "Conviértete y cree en el Evangelio" el mensaje para oídos latinos es el mismo. Es un mensaje que nos saca de nuestro egoísmo recordándonos lo que los antiguos Toltecas ya sabían: esta vida es un sueño y el que muere despierta a la vida verdadera. Viviendo el Evangelio en esta vida nos prepara para la vida eterna. Las cenizas y esas frases dan un mensaje que lleva la imagen de la tierra que se somete para cultivarse. A veces la tierra se quema para que de sus cenizas venga vida nueva. Las cenizas que se nos pusieron no son para despreciar nuestra vida sino para amarla. De esa manera seremos cultivados por el ayuno, la oración y la caridad que hagamos durante la Cuaresma, sometiendo el polvo de nuestro cuerpo para dar fruto eterno. -Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J.
