A need for worship services at Howard Lake was voiced by summer tourists who visited Moore Springs. The worship times, provide a way for visitors and neighbors alike, to turn their hearts to God at a lake setting.
The worship service is non-traditional in style, with a con-temporary flavor. The Bible is our text, in which we believe God reveals his love and plan for his children through Jesus Christ and his Word.
The mission of Lighthouse at the Lake is to share the love of Jesus with the surrounding community, that all may hear the saving good news of the gospel and have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Opportunities For Worship And ServiceWorship services every Sunday at 9:00am with Commu-nion on the first, third and fifth Sunday. Left on East Bad Medicine Road 2 miles to Bad Medicine Resort & CampgroundNon-Denominational ServicesWorship Service: 11 a.m.Services Memorial Weekend through Labor Day WeekendPhone: 218-573-3790 A need for summer church services on Bad Medi-cine Lake began in the 1960s, when our lake became a growing community. These summer church services at Bad Medicine Lake were originated by Rev. Oscar Anderson, president of Augsburg College in Minneap-olis from 1963-1980. In 1963, at the suggestion of a neighbor, Oscar held a church service at his cabin on Bad Medicine Lake. The idea proved popular, and for the first years, services were held on a rotating basis at cabins around the lakeshore. However, as attendance grew, space and parking became a problem. Bad Med-icine Resort had the parking facilities and docks for the boats. We first met on the lakeshore of the resort in 1972-73. Then Don and Carolyn Tschudi built a large hall at their resort, and services were moved in-doors. Our congregation grew and grew, as ministers also came to our lake and built homes here. Pastor Oscar Anderson gave our chapel its name, Chapel of the Good Creation. Every summer, on Sunday at 11 a.m. from Memo-rial Day through Labor Day weekend, services are held at the Chapel of the Good Creation at Bad Medicine Resort. Services are nondenominational, but reflect the largely Scandinavian Lutheran background of this region. The Chapel of the Good Creation has no reg-ular pastor and depends upon our local ministers and lake residents to donate their time to conduct services. At the end of each service, local residents take turns hosting a coffee time. As in the parable of the “Loaves and Fishes,” more than enough cookies and bars al-ways seem to appear to accompany coffee, soft drinks and socializing. The Chapel is hosted by Don Tschudi and Helen Holmer, pictured above. The Chapel is now incor-
porated with a nonprofit status. We are blessed with many retired ministers and resident speakers taking turns leading the services. Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day include a special choir music with local music directors in charge of the choir. Bad Medicine Resort is celebrating over 50 years of ownership. All services are open to the public and visitors are always welcome.

History and Heart of the Stone Church in Dorset
First English Lutheran Church is known as the “Stone Church in Dorset.” When the present sanctuary was built in 1936, each member of the congregation was asked to bring a stone from their own home. It was a beautiful picture of what Holy Scripture says in 1 Peter 2:4-5, “As you come to him, the living Stone - rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him - you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (NIV) We believe that Jesus Christ is our only Lord and Savior, and forgiveness of sins and salvation are an absolutely free gift bought by His sacrifice on the cross of Calvary. This greatest of gifts is received by faith in Jesus Christ, and true faith is always accompanied by a repentant life. We believe that the Bible is the very Word of God, completely Holy and without errors. Our aim is to bring all of God’s precious Word to all of God’s precious people and to help all to grow in an ever richer rela-tionship with Him. We endeavor to teach the Word of God in all its truth and purity in order that all may live happier, fuller, more godly lives as we look forward to the eternal life to come. Hubbard United Methodist Church embodies a spirit of warm welcome to all who enter its doors. Each Sun-day morning the pastor and parishioners greet members, friends and newcomers with joy. The refrain, ‘It’s a great day on the Hubbard Prairie” is often heard during this greeting time. The church is blessed to be a diverse faith community.On any given Sunday you can find people of many dif-ferent denominations all worshiping together as brothers and sisters in Christ. Members of the church live their faith by displaying enthusiasm, encouragement, generosity and concern for others in fellowship activities, community involvement, mission support, and worship. We support several local missions, as well as raising money to provide water wells in Africa and other ministries too numerous to name here. In 1948, a small group of dedicated souls joined together to form Trinity Lutheran Church. Strong in spirit and grounded in Scripture, we are members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. We are located right on Highway 71, near the west end of Lake George. Since our beginning, several pastors have served us with their knowledge and inspiration from the Word of God. Pastor Donald Kirchner is currently serving our parish. Our parish partic-ipates in numerous benefits for local folks with various needs each year. We are also involved in a mission project in Haiti where a church, a school, and a medical clinic are being built. Some of our families have “adopted” Haitian students and are paying for their schooling. Our ladies actively participate in the Lutheran Wom-an’s Missionary League by making quilts and are involved in many other activities. Each fall our annual “Hunters Supper” attracts many locals and visitors alike to a home-cooked turkey din-ner. We believe it is the will of our Lord Jesus Christ that His disciples should preach the Gos-pel to the whole world; that Christ’s mission for His church might be carried out according to

Constructed by Father Fraling in 1941, using recycled materials, its unique, stucco exterior and distinctive, green steeple appear stately against the towering pines. The interior stucco, with ornate stenciling in natural berry colors, creates a beau-tiful place for worship. The acoustics within the church are exceptional. The church closed in 1997, due to lack of priests. In 1999, a small local volunteer group de-veloped a program to provide a nearly free vaca-tion including housing, bicycles, boats, golf and guided fishing in exchange for celebrating Sunday Mass. Beginning in 2000, we have successfully filled Sundays with vacationing priests from throughout the U.S. They, along with all our visiting parish-ioners, have enjoyed the many delightful experi-ences of Itasca State Park. The volunteers of St. Catherine’s welcome and appreciate your assistance and support of our pro-gram. However you choose to assist us, be it phys-ically, prayerfully, finding priests or financially, we thank you.

Trinity Lutheran Church, ELCA
- Mission StatementTrinity Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evan-
gelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), located in Laporte. From the first Sunday in June through Labor Day, summer worship is at 9 a.m. The rest of the year, Sunday worship is at 10:30 a.m. with adult Bible study at 9:30 a.m. Coffee and fellowship follow each worship service, summer or winter. Our summer worship features distinguished guest preachers from among our summer residents.
Trinity Lutheran was formed when a group from Laporte approached Pastor Hans Magelssen of Walker to help them establish a congregation. On April 11, 1920 he began his work. Services were first held in the school-house, but by 1926 they had dug the basement and began holding services there. The current sanctuary was completed in 1932. Over the years additions have been made to the building so that it is fully accessible.

PRAG’s Sunday Morning Worship Service is conducted in a way that is meant to be meaning-ful to those who currently have a committed re-lationship with Jesus, and to those who are just beginning to explore the Christian faith. Biblical forms of worship are modeled. We attempt to be sensitive to those who may not be familiar with the charismatic style of worship. We experience the presence of God as we sing songs and hymns that are both lively, expressive and jubilant, and those that are meditative and prayerful. Our prayer is that each person comes into contact and has an experience with our living God.
We understand that each individual moves along their faith journey at a different pace, and as we allow it, God brings about change through the Holy Spirit as He reveals truth in His time. What kind of church is the Park Rapids Church of Christ? What do we believe and teach?
1. We are a Christ-Centered church! That is why the church wears His name. We believe that Jesus Christ is the One and Only Son of God. He became flesh and dwelled among us, taught us God’s will, and gave us an example of how we should live. Above all, Christ suffered and died on a cross to take the punishment that we deserved. Because He was innocent, death had no power over Him and He was resurrected and then as-cended to heaven. Therefore we believe that Jesus is not a dead sacrifice but a Living Savior. It is through our relationship to Him that we are for-given, find help for daily living and are changed from the inside-out.
2. We are a Bible Believing church! We be-lieve the Bible is the written manifestation of the Living Word of God, Jesus Christ. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guid-ance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian faith and living. Because it is in-spired by God, it is the truth (as Jesus is the Truth) without any error. We believe that it is God’s love
letter to mankind. It tells us how much God loves us and shows us how to love God and one an-other.
3. We are a Gospel Preaching church! The Gospel literally means “good news.” The gospel that we teach and preach is the good news about Jesus. It is the good news that we can live life to the fullest now and forever with Jesus. This kind of good news is not meant to be kept to ourselves but to be shared with everyone. We don’t preach the gospel to condemn or control others but to share with them the free gift of salvation that we have received through Jesus. If we ever share the Gospel with you, please don’t be offended. We feel it would be selfish and unlike Christ to keep this good news to ourselves.
4. We are a Non-Denominational church! We seek to be like the church we read about in the New Testament. That is why our baptism is by immersion, our communion is every Sunday, our preaching is about Christ, and our prayers are in Christ’s name. We have no denominational struc-ture or official headquarters. There are no national conventions where church doctrine is decided. As a local church we go to God’s Word as our only guide. We are just Christians who seek to be united with all who want to be just Christians.

What can I expect at First Baptist Church?
We are a church that emphasizes the Word of God. Our songs are saturated with Scripture, and we gener-ally sing hymns and newer doctrine-rich songs. Most of the service is hearing the Word read and following along while the Bible is preached. The desire is to enable people to have an understanding of the Scripture so that when they are reading it at home, the Holy Spirit can make the needed changes in those who have already been changed by the Gospel. Located just west of Park Rapids, Minnesota on Highway 34, St. Johns is a congregation gathered by Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit around His saving Word and life-giving Sacraments. As a con-gregation of the Minnesota North District of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, we joyfully hold to the teachings of the Scriptures as they are confessed in the Lutheran Confessions.
St. Johns is a congregation of conservative Lu-therans who have received grace and every bless-ing from our Savior. Our preaching is centered on Jesus Christ and Him crucified. As a confessional Lutheran church we are faith-ful to God’s Word - the Holy Bible. We believe that the Bible is inspired by God the Holy Spirit who moved men to write the very thoughts and words that are recorded. Since it is inspired we believe that the Bible is infallible, not capable of being wrong. It will not fail, deceive, or disappoint.
As a confessional Lutheran church we are also faithful to the central message of Bible. We con-fess, with Jesus, that first and foremost the Scrip-tures testify about Him and the eternal life found
in Him (John 5:39).Since the central message of the Bible is the rev-
elation of Jesus as our Savior our worship service is faithful to that same message. We don’t gather at St. Johns to “give God His due.” Rather, we gather to receive through Word and Sacrament the gifts won for us by Jesus at the cross - forgiveness, life, and salvation. To that end our worship is historic and liturgical, designed to truly glorify God by re-joicing in His salvation.
Outside the Divine Service, the education of all ages is very important. During the school year, we have Sunday school, release time and confirmation for the youth. For adults there are opportunities for Bible study Sunday, Tuesday and Wednes-day. St. Johns also has youth programs, women’s groups, music groups for adults and children, and many other opportunities for fellowship and ser-vice.

Having celebrated 100 years as an Episcopal congre-gation (2013) and 10 years as an ecumenical shared ministry with the Presbyterian Church USA, Trinity Church is moving into its second century in Park Rap-ids.
Although Episcopal services were held in Park Rapids as early as 1910, the church was officially organized in 1913 as a mission in the former diocese of Northern Minnesota, since merged into the Episcopal Church in Minnesota. In 2003, Trinity Church was recognized as an ecumenical shared ministry between the Episcopal Church and the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., and has attracted national attention for its unique witness to Christian interdenominational cooperation.
Trinity Church features a warm and welcoming fel-lowship involving a year-round resident congregation as well as an “extended” congregation of seasonal res-idents, visitors and guests. The congregation includes worshippers with a wide variety of religious denom-inational backgrounds. Worship services take place each Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. Services are usually conducted in the liturgical tradition of the Episcopal Church, with the Reformed tradition of the Presbyte-rian Church observed on at least one Sunday of each month. The worship area is furnished and decorated in the warm and colorful style characteristic of Epis-copal churches.
A comfortable parish hall provides space for church activities and for conversation and refreshments fol-lowing worship. The parish hall also affords conve-nient access to the church building for persons with limited mobility. Church functions include a Women’s Guild, meeting on the first Wednesday of each month, beginning with refreshments and devotions at 1 p.m. Guild projects and activities feature visiting speakers and educational projects examining opportunities for outreach and service both in the local area and world-wide. After Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve the church was once again de-stroyed by fire. With local support and dedication, the existing church was rebuilt in 1934.A beautiful addition to St. Mary’s Parish is the
Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes nestled below the hill and adjacent to the creek. It was Father Joseph Maylan’s dream to build this Grotto after having seen the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, while on a tour in France.By the late 1950s, with the help of parishioners,
the Grotto and Stations of the Cross became a re-ality. A 200 ft. “Rosary Way” was added and com-pleted by 1981.

Different ways to spend more time as a family As members of modern fami-lies are increasingly pulled in dif-ferent directions, it can be chal-lenging for them to enjoy time together as families. According to a report titled “Spending Time with His Kids: Effects of Family Structure on Fa-thers’ and Children’s Lives” in the Journal of Marriage and the Fam-ily, kids’ academic performance can benefit from having mothers who frequently communicate with them and fathers who spend time doing activities with their kids. Time spent together also can nourish a stronger emotional bond between parents and children, which may make children less likely to exhibit behav-ioral problems. The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University states that teens who frequently have din-ner with their families are less likely to smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol or try illegal substances. Kids are not the only ones who benefit from more family time. Parents who regularly interact with their children may learn to appreciate their kids even more. They can see the subtle changes in personality and abilities as kids age, and be better equipped to intervene if they suspect their children are veering off the right path. Spending time with children can be fun, as well as mentally and physically stimulating.
Parents who want to in-crease family time can do so in various ways. ♦ Establish at least one day each week that the family catches up with one another. It may be a Friday evening or a Sunday after-noon. Choosing a day rather than winging it guarantees weekly time together. ♦ Take a break from tele-vision or screen time on com-puters and mobile devices. The American Academy of Pediatrics
discourages media use by children younger than two and rec-ommends limiting older children’s screen time to no more than one or two hours a day. Too much screen time by children, and even adults, can result in irregular sleeping habits, behavioral problems, obesity, and less time for play or family interaction. Shutting off devices for a few hours frees up opportunities for families to engage in other activities. ♦ Eat at least one family meal together per day and use the opportunity to talk about what is going on in one another’s lives. ♦ Find a local church your family can get involved with and start participate in family events together. Creating more time for family can sometimes seem impossi-ble, but parents can get creative to ensure they spend more time with their kids.

The celebration of Holy Communion is a thread that links all Chris-tians. While the components of receiving the Eucharist are similar, each church and denomination has its own variations on the sacrament. The depiction of Holy Communion on television and in movies rou-tinely shows the Catholic celebration, so many are familiar with how Catholics receive the Eucharist. But members of other Christian churches celebrate the sacrament differently.
Lutheran Lutheran beliefs are similar to those of Catholics, but there are some differences in the vocabulary used to describe the Eucharist. The term “transubstantiation” is not used in the Lutheran Church to describe the change of the bread and wine into Christ. Furthermore, Catholics maintain the practice of reserving communion wafers in the taberna-cle, believing that Christ is still present. According to Busted Halo, an online magazine for spiritual seekers, Lutherans do not believe that the presence of Christ continues in the bread and wine after the time of the Eucharistic celebration.
Orthodox Orthodox Christians believe that the Eucharist is a sacrament, but they refer to it as a “mystery” rather than a “sacrament.” Followers ac-cept the Real Presence of the Eucharist but do not attempt to explain how this change occurs. The service is commonly known as the Divine Liturgy in many Orthodox churches.
Reformed and Presbyterian Presbyterian and Reformed denominations have a different view of the Eucharist. Derived from the teachings of John Calvin, Reformed and Presbyterian churches teach that Christ is not literally present in the bread and wine. Instead, Presbyterians believe that Christ is spiri-tually present and is received with the power of the Holy Spirit for the faithful.
Baptists and Other Groups Baptists and similar denominations largely view The Lord’s Supper as a remembrance of Christ’s suffering. According to the spiritual re-source Christianity in View, many deny any form of physical or spiri-tual presence of Christ in the bread and wine. In addition to the practices reserved for each denomination, there may be other rules regarding the celebration of Mass and the Eucharist. For example, the Vatican mandates that only Roman Catholics who are in good standing with the Church and are free from mortal sin are allowed to participate in the Eucharist. In addition, Catholics must fast for an hour before receiving Communion, while some churches make Communion open to any Christian.
Some churches offer Communion every day or once per week. Oth-ers do it less often. Celebrants may walk up to the altar to receive from a common cup and bowl, while others pass around the Eucharist among parishioners. What’s distributed also may be different. Fruit juice may be substituted for wine. No matter how the Eucharist is shared and celebrated, it remains a sacred component of church ceremonies.

Individual religious documents must be stored in a safe place
Maintaining good records can be beneficial in a variety of ways. People sometimes have a need to consult important paperwork, such as birth certificates, social security cards and mortgage contracts, and the ability to organize such docu-ments effectively can make it eas-ier to handle those situations when these records are needed. Import-ant documents should be kept in a safe, easily accessible place, and the same can be said for education-al documents and religious certifi-cates. Parents need to access their kids’ records during Communion and Confirmation season. Completing early sacraments is often a prerequisite to participating in those that come later in life. Cath-olic children who do not attend a Catholic school will need to be enrolled in faith formation classes in order to receive Holy Com-munion or to be confirmed in the church. In addition, they will need to provide proof that they are practicing members of the faith. For example, many churches and religious educational organizations require copies of baptismal certificates for children to be eligible to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation, Communion and Confir-
mation. These same certificates may be necessary later in life as well, most notably when men and women want to get married in a church. Parents may want to store their kids’ religious documents in a folder. This makes it easier when kids become adults and must prove that they have completed the sacra-ments. Keep these items in a secure place, such as a home safe or in a safety deposit box. If these doc-uments are lost and need to be re-placed, it can take time to contact
the parish or church where sacraments took place. Godparents or those serving as Confirmation sponsors may also need to produce certain documents. Churches typically require doc-umentation from godparents and sponsors to verify that they are practicing members of the faith and will guide the children they are sponsoring accordingly. Sponsors may find they will need to provide a letter from a pastor or priest verifying their attendance at church and status as an active participant. Copies of sacramental certificates may also be required. Knowing these requirements in advance helps everyone participating in sacraments to be prepared for what is expected of them during this religious journey.

Downsizing and other life changes often find seniors leav-ing their comfort zones to move to new neighborhoods or regions of the country. It can be difficult to leave those comfort zones be-hind, especially when it means saying goodbye to close friends or family members. Establishing new social circles as a senior can be challenging. But with a little ef-fort and the right attitude, seniors can meet new people and enjoy the excitement that comes with new friendships.
♦ Join a club. If you have a particular hobby or inter-est, rekindle it in your new location. Find a local gar-dening club, church-sponsored organization or fitness center where you can meet like-minded men and women. Ask the real estate agent who helped you relocate to make suggestions on where to find community informa-tion and read community notices in the local newspaper. ♦ Get a dog. Dogs make great companions inside of the house and also serve as an ice breaker when you are outdoors. Take plenty of walks and take advantage of opportunities for conversation when people come up to you to inquire about your dog. Explain your situa-tion and you may make some new friends along the way. ♦ Volunteer your time. Many people make new friends
through volunteering. Volunteer and you’re likely to meet people who share the same interests as you. Sign up with a favorite charity or volunteer at nonprofit events and look for familiar faces. Start talking to those peo-ple you meet again and again. ♦ Participate in church events. Places of religious wor-ship are often cornerstones of a community, and they fre-quently host different events to get parishioners or members
together. Read the bulletin and get involved in pot lucks, re-treats, movie nights, and other church-sponsored events. ♦ Work at a school. Schools also serve as hubs of com-munity activity. Volunteer or work for a local school and you will soon find yourself immersed in your community’s week-day hustle and bustle. This is a great way to meet people and learn more about your new neighborhood in the process. ♦ Host your own party. Go out on a limb and plan a “new to the neighborhood” party. Put invitations in neighbors’ mailboxes and invite everyone over for snacks and cocktails. Remember, neighbors may be just as nervous about new faces as you are, and a party is a great way to break the ice. Change can be hard for people seniors starting out in new communities. With some gumption and a few strategies to get started, anyone can expand their circle of friends.
