SCRIPTURE REFLECTION BACKBONE

Lobster shell or backbone? Which do we want? The law can be used in different ways. Jesus argued for law as backbone. He looked at the real purpose of “clean

and unclean,” “exterior and interior,” adherence to the word planted within. When law is backbone, then we have cause to exercise and grow in the Lord,

supported and strengthened in the truth. In this life, Christ Jesus, who is the way of service to one another, leads us by the power of the Holy Spirit to the Father.

CANCER CARE Cancer Care will close for the winter next

ANNUAL 50-50 CASH RAFFLE Our annual cash raffle continues today. The

winner splits the pot. Proceeds for the church are applied to the yard sale account, so please

be generous. Tickets are $2 each; 3 for $5; and 10 for $10 and are available in the rear of the church. You need not

be present to win. The drawing will be held at the annual picnic September 9th.

CHURCH HUMOR A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons,

Kevin 5, and Ryan 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the

first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson..

'If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, 'Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.'

Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, ' Ryan, you be Jesus!'

BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL The Diocese recently announced the dates and

targets for the Diocesan Annual Appeal which will once again be held in the first

weeks of October. As in the past two years our parish will receive 20% of all funds collected up to our goal amount

and 50% of all funds over goal. Our parish target is $4,500, a 10% increase over last year. In addition to receiving the percentage amounts enumerated above, our parish was a beneficiary last year from the Diocesan Fuel and Hunger Fund. We received

$1,000 to assist our Good Samaritan Fund.
