Hello and welcome to the summer edition of Campbell’s Chronicles.

Over the past few months we have continued to welcome many new residents to our village, and we will soon be reaching the milestone of 300 residents! Along with new residents we also have new team members. It’s fantastic to have people bring their fresh ideas, energy and perspectives to the village.

It’s hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the year, and we’re already starting to plan for our Christmas and end of year celebrations. These will include resident dinner parties, a Christmas village market and musical performances.

We have a strong team of activities coordinators who have the primary role of making village life fun and interesting – along with an increased

focus on general wellbeing and health too. It’s one part of village life that I particularly love – always seeing something new and exciting happening and residents getting involved.

Our care centres are also filling fast! So, if you are yet to have a tour, we’d love to show you through. An advantage of our village is we have three different levels of care, so we can adjust our care in line with your health requirements.

We look forward to seeing you soon,

Greetings from Karyn...

It’s been an amazing year so far for our residents and its good to see the village centre come alive with activities and families enjoying the space. Welcome to all our new residents, we hope you’ll love your new home.

By now most of you will have met our new sales advisor, Liz Thrush! Before joining us here, Liz worked as a roving sales advisor for Ryman. We are very happy to have her join our team.

At the beginning of August, we had a very successful open weekend, with Jude Walter from Brainfit for Life giving a presentation. Everyone was very impressed. Look out for more exciting events.

We currently have a selection of independent and serviced apartments on offer, so if you’re interested come in, and we will take you on a tour.

Who knew we had so many talented people at our village?

Our village market day attracted around 170 residents, their friends and family. It was fantastic to see all the items on offer, including knitted scarves, baby clothes, mittens and even book markers.

The bakers also came out in force with delicious treats to suit everyone’s taste buds. The men contributed some lovely hand-crafted wooden items such as trivets, ladles and a variety of toys.

The village came together to show their support for our Ryman charity partner of the year – The Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. All in all, we raised $300. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

News from the serviced apartments

Our serviced apartment residents enjoyed going out on a bus trip to the Viaduct Harbour. Residents enjoyed a short trip to the harbour because of the weather and then they had afternoon tea at 21 Viaduct Café, which overlooks the harbour.

Everyone enjoyed the fantastic views, company and excellent

service before deciding to head back to the village the long way round! They cruised by Okahu Bay, Mission Bay, Kohimarama Bay, St. Heliers Bay and finishing at Ladies Bay.

A fantastic day out with some spectacular scenery.

Out & About

Hello, my name is Shirley Fountain and I’m a serviced apartment resident here at the village.

My husband and I lived in Kohimarama. He passed away seven years ago and it became hard for me to live on my own, so I moved into Logan Campbell

I enjoy the comforts of the village and the fact that my room is nice and warm too.

in 2018. I am now settled in the village and have been making friends.

I worked mainly in secretarial jobs over the years, and while the work was often uninteresting, I loved shorthand. Many of my notes confounded my children as they couldn’t understand a word of it!

I have many pleasant memories of growing up with my family. I loved music and singing, and as my father was a music teacher, I was exposed to all kinds of music. I used to sing quite often as a child. There were other hobbies. I was quite fond of painting and embroidery but nowadays my fingers are not quite as nimble as they used to be.

Luckily, I have been able to bring some of my prized possessions with me to my new apartment. The keepsakes include some china, some of my favourite chairs and some pictures. When I have something familiar in my room, I find myself much more settled. When we are surrounded by some friends, we find ourselves much happier.

I enjoy the comforts of the village and the fact that my room is nice and warm too. Meeting and chatting with people is also fantastic and I join in on the singing sessions whenever I can.

I encourage people to do what they like to do at the village, and I love it here.

Hello, my name is Kulbhushan Kokate, but I am mostly known as KK. I was born and grew up in India.

I have always had a passion for the hospitality industry and before coming to New Zealand I worked in India and the United States, mostly in hotels.

In 2011, I moved to New Zealand to study cookery, and then I worked in several restaurants as a chef.

I married my wife, Rachana, and after we had a child I decided that I needed to have a better

work-life balance. So, I started working at Logan Campbell village in 2018 as a chef.

I like working at the village as my colleagues are incredibly supportive and fun to be with.

The Ryman team helps me with my professional growth as well. There is a genuine spirit of cooperation and shared goals, especially to help care for our residents. My aim is to give our residents nutritional food of the very best quality.

Introducing Kulbhushan

I like working at the village as my colleagues are incredibly

supportive and fun to be with.

Staff profile

For International Month our care centre residents celebrated our diversity at the village. The resthome residents explored New Zealand and Māori culture, and some of our residents showed off their talents. As part of the cultural presentation, one resident, Murray Dye wore a Māori cloak or korowai for residents to see.

Almost every week we have an afternoon pet therapy session for residents and members of staff! Our pets include a regular visitor, Ebony Rose, who enjoys the huge amount of attention she receives from our residents in the Cornwall Lounge. Everyone loves the interaction!

Celebrating our diversity

As part of the village’s International Month celebrations we held a very successful Happy Hour.

Our staff dressed in their national dress, performed dance numbers and held a fabulous fashion parade before an appreciative audience. We were privileged to watch the performance by such a talented and gorgeous bunch!

The village assistant manager Rebecca McMillan wore a pavlova costume and understandably was the darling of the crowd. Some residents also dressed up according to nationality.Pictured: Our staff all dressed up.
