DescriptionThe Chromalox ChromaStar™ infra-redcomfort heaters are designed to provide arugged source of heat for use in areaswhere dependence on air movement isimpractical. The heaters are versatile,designed to provide warmth directlywhere it is needed for primary or spotheating applications. Each unit isconstructed for long life and requiresminimal maintenance. There are nomoving parts or motors to wear out, noair filters or lubrication required.

All Chromalox ChromaStar™ radiantheaters feature the exclusive “Arctic End”Patent Pending heating element terminalconstruction. This feature lowers theterminal box temperatures resulting inextended element and wiring life.

Extruded aluminum housings are rigid toprovide added protection to the heatingelements located at the focal point of abuilt-in mirrored aluminum reflector(s).

The heater(s) consist of hairpin bent .430”diameter alloy sheath tubular element(s)constructed of high quality resistancewire embedded in carefully selected MgOrefractory insulation. The element feature“Arctic end” terminal construction forlonger life and cooler terminal enclosuretemperatures. The element(s) also featureterminal construction using a waged-insilicone bushings that produceunequalled resistance to moistureabsorption. The heating element(s)connect to a gasketed, moistureresistance terminal enclosure with liquid-tight bulkhead threaded fittings.

An extension reflector constructed of0.050” mirrored aluminum extends overthe assembly to provide a more uniformheating pattern.

PortableAll portable heaters are supplied fullyassembled to a rugged, chrome-nickelplated tubular steel cart and handle (1.5and 2.0 kW heater has a fixed pedestal).The cart features large wheels for easyportability. All portable heaters includesafety grills to protect personnel fromcontacting hot elements.

Field wiring is accomplished through a 3/4” conduit opening in terminal enclosure.The 1.5 kW u nit comes complete with afactory installed 6 foot cord and 2 pronggrounding type plug. Other models canbe field wired using accessory cable andplug kits shown.

Fixed OverheadThe Chromalox ChromaStar™ radiantheater is shipped fully assembled and canbe hung from thee ceiling with 2 chains orrigid angle brackets attached to theheater brackets located on the back ofthe heater.

Field wiring is accomplished through theliquid tight terminal enclosure. Nosecondary splice box required.

Protective screens, disconnect switchesand portable carts are available for theseheaters as shown.

Construction

Tip-Over Switch Kits (For Portable STAR-06 and STAR-14 Heaters)Chromalox STARTIP tip-over switch kits can be easily added to all Chromalox STAR 06 or 14 seriesfactory assembled portable heaters or fixed overhead heaters which have been modified by use of aportable, STAR-CART kit. This kit is designed to de-energize the heating elements of unattended units inevent the heater is accidentally knocked over. The kit includes a control circuit transformer, magneticcontactor, tip-over switch assembly and on-off toggle switch with rubber boot, completely prewired in aNEMA 4 enclosure. The kit also includes a 1” coupling, wiring between the contactor and heater, mount-ing bracket, hardware and instructions to complete the installation to the heater.

Tip-Over Switch and Ground Fault Detector Kits(For Portable STAR-06 and STAR-14 Heaters)The Chromalox STAR-TG series kits include the components and fea-tures of the STARTIP tip-over kits with the additional protection providedby a ground fault detector. The ground fault detector will monitor for anygradual changes in the insulation level due to humidity or mechanicaldamage and will de-energize the contactor to prevent arcing type faults,preventing premature element failure and potential fire damage.

Hanger KitHanger kits include 24 feet of chain, 4 "S" hooks tomount units in a fixed overhead position using theuniversal mounting brackets included on the backof fixed overhead radiant models. The chain is longenough to allow all heaters to be mounted up to 6feet from the ceiling.

Safety Grill KitsThe safety grill kits contain one (2kW, 4.5kW and6kW) or two grills (13.5kW) to protect personnelfrom coming in contact with hot heating elements.The grills are constructed of heavy gauge platedsteel and are simple to install.

Portable Cart KitsChromalox series ChromaStarTM fixed overheadradiant heaters can be field converted to portablespot heaters with the use of the cart kits. Each kitincludes wheels, legs, handle, grill(s), baffle (if re-quired) and all of the necessary hardware to com-plete the modification. These kits are easy to installwith standard tools.

Power Disconnect KitThe disconnect kit consists of a complete liquid tightassembly including a 3 pole 50 Amp switch, powerterminal block and all hardware to mount to eitherthe fixed overhead or portable radiant heater.

Ground Fault DetectionThe Chromalox STAR-GF series wall mounted ground fault detec-tors are designed to monitor for any gradual changes in the insula-tion level due to humidity or mechanical damage as they developand will de-energize the load to prevent arcing type faults, prevent-ing premature element failure and potential fire damage. The detec-tor consists of a ground fault sensor, control circuit transformer,magnetic contactor and an on off toggle switch with rubber boot,completely pre-wired in a NEMA 4 enclosure.
