For over 240 years Christys have been designing and hand crafting the finest hats - inspired by great British fashion, culture, sports and of course the weather. Creating the new season’s collection is always an exciting prospect: Keeping true to the Christys’ core whilst reflecting modern life or imagining the future is a fine balance.

For Autumn Winter 2015, with hats re-emerging as the definitive accessory, Christys is once again the hat to be seen in.

Stunning colours in our wool felts, luxurious women’s fur felts trimmed with chic feathers or bows and classic caps in new contemporary tweeds all in addition to the Christys’ favourites at the heart of our collections.

In October 2014 we were part of a unique collaboration with the Museum of London, to create a Sherlock (Deerstalker) hat. This involved a new tweed designed by Christys and developed with Lovat Mill, which debuted at the Museum of London’s Sherlock Holmes exhibition. The tweed has been used on our classic Balmoral flat cap as well as the Sherlock, and has proved so desirable that we have expanded the collection with a completely new cap design - the Watson.

UK HANDMADE FELTSFUR FELTS

Our handmade Fur Felts are soft and durable and retain a fabulous handle throughout their life. Available in classic black, navy, red wine, sable, elm, silver grey, bessemer and light beige, this season we have also added the colours of racing green, ink blue and grey mix.

At Christys we invariably hand set and finish the crown and brim separately. This gives us the opportunity to experiment with combinations, both from blocks that we have developed over our 242 years of existence, as well as with new looks we wish to introduce. This year we have developed several styles - The Bond has a low crown and mid brim for men and women; and exclusively for the ladies, we are excited by the new Clementine and Phoebe styles.

Our wool felt collection goes from strength to strength. Handmade in the UK from fine merino wool felt hoods, these hats are the perfect way to create the season’s look or timeless style

Our colour palette is particularly appealing this season. Available as classics are black, navy, maroon, brown, purple and charcoal mix to which the seasonal colours of emerald, mink, slate and blue mix have been added.

MUSEUM OF LONDON‘SHERLOCK HOLMES’ TWEED

To celebrate the opening of the Museum of London’s ‘Sherlock Holmes’ exhibition, Christys were asked to collaborate on a design for a fine tweed to make our Sherlock and Balmoral hats. Following extensive research in the Museum of London fashion archives, at renowned tweed manufacturers Lovat Mill and in the Christys’ 19th century hat catalogues, the 221b Museum of London tweed with its grey base and contemporary blue and gold fine check was realised.

The tweed has proved so successful, we have created a small and eye catching collection using some of our classic cap styles. The Balmoral and Sherlock are joined by the new Watson cap, and the British Ball Cap has been given a 221b tweed peak.

We like to think that Sherlock Holmes would have found the style he was looking for. A Christys’ contemporary classic. Elementary.

For horse races, weddings, funerals and other formal events, we still manufacture the finest felted headwear. Crafted using the same traditional methods, our formal hats will ensure a lifetime of looking great in a well-dressed crowd.
