St. Patrick’s Catholic Church  Seventh Sunday of Easter, May 8, 2016

    Dear Parish Family,

We celebrate the great mystery of

Christ’s ascension into heaven. Afterhis resurrection, Jesus stayed a bit longer with hisdisciples, making sure they truly believed in hisglorious resurrection. As it was the Father’s plan, however, Jesus was to return to his glorious throneto be seated at the right hand of the Father and to beour Lord and King.

“Then he [Jesus] led the disciples out as far asBethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. As he blessed them he parted from them and was taken upto heaven. They did him homage and then returnedto Jerusalem with great joy, and they werecontinually in the temple praising God.” (Luke 24:50-53).

Jesus had just left his disciples and went to heaven, and yet the disciples were filled with joy. Whydidn’t they show sorrow? Precisely because theytruly understood Christ’s glorious resurrection andascension into heaven. They knew that Jesus wasnot going a long distance away from them. Instead, with His glorious ascension into heaven, Jesus

transcended space and time. This meant that He became available for everyone and everywhere Hisname is called upon. He is present at every altarwhere the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist iscelebrated.

The disciples also became aware that right after theAscension they would enjoy the company of theHoly Spirit, the Spirit who would lead them to thefullness of truth, the Spirit who would bestow thegifts of faith, hope, and love for the new believers.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, let us rejoice because Jesus is always with us, and the Holy Spiritis also our companion on our journey toward theFather.

Happy Feast of the Ascension. God bless you all.

    Fr. Lopez

    Estimada Familia Parroquial,

Thank you for supporting St. Patrick Parish Outreach.

God is ready to give mercy

    and forgiveness to everyone

Pope Francis speaks to us as Jesus spoke to the

    crowds—everyone, without distinction, got

Jesus’ attention, and to everyone he offered

hope, the chance to do better, and his

unconditional love. In the kingdom, no one is

inferior in God’s eyes; no one is unworthy. We

have a mission to treat people that way now —

     what a message to share!

    TheDoors

    of Mercy

    are Open

    Ponder

Are there people I love more thanothers? Do I show favoritism to someand reject others? How can I rememberGod’s mercy to me and share that?

    Pray

Lord, in our society with all its levels of acceptance andapproval ratings and the like, help me to break down the barriers and to see everyone as an equal who reflects yourface—just as I hope I am reflecting you to them! Amen

    Did you know?

    1.  Christ ascended, body and soul, into heaven onAscension Day, forty days after HisResurrection.

    2.  Christ remained on earth forty days after His

Resurrection to prove that He had truly risenfrom the dead and to complete His instructionto the apostles.

    3.  When we say that Christ sits at the right hand ofGod, the Father Almighty, we mean that OurLord, as God, is equal to the Father, and that, asman, He shares above all the saints in the gloryof His Father and exercises for all eternity thesupreme authority of a king over all creatures.

    (a)  Even as man, Christ of Himself has

dominion over all creation. His Kingshiprests on the fact that His human nature isimmediately united to the divine Person ofthe Son of God, and on the fact that Heredeemed all men with His precious blood.

    (b) On earth Christ exercises His kinglyauthority in spiritual matters through HisChurch. His Kingship extends also overtemporal and civil matters.

    ¿ Tu Sabías? …
