Christopher Garcia

•He is an ELL, in kindergarten, with a poor literary environment at home. When we first met he was sounding out every word as he read…Now he is picking out books for himself, reading at grade level and comprehending 80 % + of what he reads.

•During our time together I read to him and we worked on sight words

•He is eager to learn and please

•Working with him was a blast, he is a cooperating, sweat little boy!!

Ana

•She is a sixth grade, honor role, student with great parental involvement

•Working with her was a little harder, she does not like to learn how to do things other than her way

•She is very smart, but also very stubborn, I guess she was only there because her parents made her but she did learn a lot about the Holocaust!!

Such different experiences

When I first started the education program I thought could only work with the little ones, but working with Ana allowed me to see that being able to joke, use more sophisticated vocabulary, and being able to take different views at a topic is fabulous and a very fun way to teach!

Christopher on the other side showed me that working with the small children has a sweater more warm side. Seeing his smiling face when he learned something new or finally understood something he did not before is a great feeling!

Now I feel like I can teach any grade, from learning to read to learning about WWII

However…Task is something I have always seen as a barrier to children’s learning. I would not mind helping children to learn strategies for it, since I have plenty, but I would rather not deal with it.

Let’s be realistic, at most public schools children and teachers are so concentrated on these test that they don’t have much room for other things.

OHHHH…

Come on who doesn’t like finger painting, singing, jumping and…hugs!!

I think that all grades have their great sides, but I just love those uncorrupted little, big minds

Just a thought…

Teaching is not easy…I mean we have to be able to know all the topics, how to present them, keep children interested and acting well. Also love, protect and well the list goes on, but if after all this you still love your job…please continue to be a teacher!!

Things I learned…

No matter what kind of reading environment a child has at home there is always a good teacher that can get them interested in school.

Working with other teachers can be a great learning experience, all you have to do is listen and wait your turn

All grade levels have their beauty I am definitely in the right profession,

teaching is my passion and I can’t wait to have my own classroom.
