NEEDLESA pair of 3.75mm knitting needles.Two double-pointed 3.75mm knitting needles.Wool needle for sewing up.

TENSION23.5 sts and 32 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 3.75mm needles.

NOTE 1 This Ornament has been knitted on smaller needles and at a tighter tension than usually recommended.

NOTE 2 This Ornament can be worked in one colour, in stripes or you can work the rib band in one colour and the rest of the Stocking in another, however, for ease of knitting we suggest you work the heel and toe in just one colour.

NOTE 3 You can use this pattern to create a beautiful Christmas Stocking Garland. Simply make an i-cord to your desired length and as many Christmas Tree Stockings as you need. Slide the Stockings onto the i-cord and secure them so they are evenly spaced, and hang up your Garland.

DIFFICULTY

RIB TOP CHRISTMAS TREE STOCKING Using a pair of 3.75mm needles, cast on 20 sts.1st row: * K1, P1, rep from * to end.Rep 1st row 5 times.Work 14 rows stocking st.

** Shape Heel:Note: When turning, bring yarn to front of work, slip next st onto right hand needle, ybk, slip st back onto left hand needle, then turn and proceed as instructed. This avoids holes in work.1st row: K14, turn. 2nd row: P8, turn. 3rd row: K8, turn. 4th row: P8, turn. 5th row: K7, turn. 6th row: P6, turn. 7th row: K5, turn. 8th row: P5, turn. 9th row: K4, turn. 10th row: P3, turn. 11th row: K10, turn. 12th row: P16, turn. Work 7 rows stocking st. 20th row: * P2, P2tog, rep from * to end … 15 sts.

21st row: * K2, K2tog, rep from * to last 3 sts, K3 … 12 sts. 22nd row: * P2tog, rep from * to end … 6 sts. 23rd row: * K2tog, rep from * to end … 3 sts. Break off yarn, run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

I-CORD HANGING LOOP Using two double-pointed 3.75mm needles, cast on 3 sts. 1st row: Knit. ** Do Not Turn. Slide sts to other end of needle and K3. Rep from ** until work measures 12cm (or length desired). Cast off.

FINISHING Join Stocking seam. Sew each end of the I-cord Hanging Loop to the inside top edge of the Stocking. Sew in all ends.

ROLL TOP CHRISTMAS TREE STOCKINGUsing a pair of 3.75mm needles, cast on 20 sts. Work 22 rows stocking st. Work as for Rib Top Christmas Tree Stocking from ** to end.

I-CORD HANGING LOOPWork as for Rib Top Christmas Tree Stocking.

FINISHINGUsing a flat seam, join Stocking seam. Allow the top edge to roll over. Sew each end of the I-cord Hanging Loop to the inside of the Stocking. Sew in all ends.
