It has been a busy term for all members of the Grange community. For our teachers, as they proceed on midterm break, this is the time to mark cycle test scripts. They will also deliberate and reflect on the work they have done in the past couple of weeks as a basis for potential improvement in the second half term and beyond. For some of our Year 11 students, it is all about preparing and writing IGCSE examinations as well as sitting for 6 th form school exams. During this midterm break, I will like our students to complete a worksheet extracted from the book 7 Habits of highly effective teenagers’. The worksheet is attached to this newsletter. We shall make hard copies available to the children as well as soft copies for parents. We expect students to complete this exercise during the mid-term break and submit the worksheets to their form tutors on the first day of resumption after half term. Dear Parent and Guardians,

We have come to the end of the first half of the

Christmas term of 2019/20 school year. It has

been a busy term for all members of the Grange

community. For our teachers, as they proceed on

midterm break, this is the time to mark cycle test

scripts. They will also deliberate and reflect on

the work they have done in the past couple of

weeks as a basis for potential improvement in the

second half term and beyond.

For some of our Year 11 students, it is all about

preparing and writing IGCSE examinations as

well as sitting for 6th form school exams. For all

other students, I will like them to reflect on two

things; what went well and what went wrong in

the past six weeks.

Reflection is the greatest opportunity for mankind

to improve on practice and achieve greater

potential. The Cambridge dictionary defines

‘Reflection’ as ‘a serious and careful thought’.

During this midterm break, I will like our students

to complete a worksheet extracted from the book

‘7 Habits of highly effective teenagers’. I crave

the indulgence of parents to discuss this

worksheet with their children.

For some students, the first six weeks of term

have been quite challenging while for others it has

been a jolly ride. Whichever way, reflection will

do us all a lot of good.

I will like to take parents back to the first week of

the term. At our first assembly, I shared with the

students the theme for the Year which is ‘LOVE

‘IT’ LIVE ‘IT’. The theme came about as a result

of some of the feedback from the parent survey

conducted in July 2019. Our values as a school

collectively became an apparent item for school

improvement. The acronym for the theme can be

found below:

L – Learning L - Living

O- Our O- Our

V- Values & V- Values

E- Embracing ‘IT’ E- Everyday

We start with ‘LOVE’ and we will end the session by

‘LIVE’. Our core values as a school with the

acronym ‘CRICS’ are Creativity, Respect, Integrity,

Confidence and Service. We shall focus on these

values and the ‘6P’s’ in the next few weeks and we

solicit the cooperation of parents in shaping the lives

of these beautiful children we have been blessed

with.

The worksheet is attached to this newsletter. We

shall make hard copies available to the children as

well as soft copies for parents. We expect students to

complete this exercise during the mid-term break and

submit the worksheets to their form tutors on the first

day of resumption after half term.

You will find in the next few pages, a brief

update on some of the activities that occurred

at the beginning of the term as well as future

programmes.

60th

Anniversary Fund Raising Gala

The school’s 60th anniversary celebration will be

rounded off with a gala evening at the MUSON

centre on Saturday, 16th of November 2019.

This fundraising event tagged ‘Unfolding the

Future – The 5 Campaign’ is targeted at raising

funds towards projects that will help our children

to further develop the curiosity, imagination and

confidence that will enable them attain their true

potential and fully participate in the development

of Nigeria and the world at large.

The ‘5 Campaign’ we plan to unfold are:

1. A STEAM Block (Science, Technology,

Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).

2. Design & Technology Centre.

3. State of the art Boarding Accommodation.

4. Performing Arts Theatre.

5. In-door Sports Centre.

Invitation cards for the event will be available for

sale as from Monday 28th October 2019 at a cost

of twenty five thousand Naira per head and forty

thousand Naira per couple. This is the maximum

amount and the school will greatly appreciate this.

Founders’ day

The 61st Founders’ day celebration will take place

on Thursday, 14th of November on the school

premises. We seize this opportunity to invite

parents to the event.

WhatsApp

The School Management has decided to use the

WhatsApp platform as a means of improving

school-home communication. We are aware that

most year groups have a WhatsApp platform. The

school platform will only serve as school-home

communication and not vice versa. The group

administrator from the school will post school

related information. The already established lines

of communication should be used by parents as a

means of feedback. We have received some

complaints from parents about our staff not

responding to mails. We are working on this.

Students Led Conferences

We thank all parents/guardians for attending these

sessions. We received both positive and negative

feedback. We will look into improving on the

conferences for the future. An analysis of the

attendance at the conference per year group can

be found in below:

7B recorded a 100% attendance.

Congratulations to 7B parents.

We encourage more Year 10 and 11parents to

attend the Target Review Meetings that will

take place in February 2020.

and also take advantage of learning materials available.

Login issues

Parents should kindly ask their children to report any issue with login difficulties with Doddle and Google

Classroom.

We still imploy parents who have not sent in the Google Classroom and BYOD consent forms to please do

so as soon as possible.

The musical interlude which is always one part of

NEWS ON THE EDUCATION FAIR

This year’s education fair took place on Friday 11th

October 2019. It was held in a marquee on the

school field.

We had sixty-seven delegates which included boarding schools, a few universities and quite a

number of school placement agents. These representatives were from Nigeria, UK, USA,

Switzerland and Canada.

It was a colourful event which was well attended by parents, pupils and guests.

SCHOOL BUS SERVICE

We are pleased to announce that the

School bus service is finally up and

running. We currently operate on 3

routes Lekki, Ikoyi/VI and Mainland

route.

There are several advantages to using

the School:

1) IT’S SOCIABLE

Riding to school with friends is fun!

What’s more, school bus riders have a

chance to mix with children of

different ages. You’d be surprised how

protective the bigger kids are of the little ones, and how much the little ones enjoy the chance to

speak to older children. This builds confidence, social skills and self-esteem.

2) IT ENCOURAGES INDEPENDENCE

Getting yourself on the right bus at the right time with all of the bags, snacks and school supplies

that you need for the day, teaches children about self-reliance from a young age.

3) IT’S GREENER

By taking the bus, your contribution to air pollution is dramatically reduced. Buses emit fewer

pollutants per kilometre travelled than cars on a per passenger basis, so by taking the bus, you are

helping us all breathe cleaner air.

4) IT BENEFITS THE COMMUNITY

More children on the bus means fewer cars on the road. This means less traffic, lower emissions,

safer roads around the schools at drop-off and pick up. The impact of your choice to use school

transportation can touch many others in a positive way.

5) IT’S BETTER FOR FAMILY HARMONY

For many families, the start to each school day is a race against the clock — a race to get the kids

up, dressed, fed and in the car, racing to get on the road before the rush hour traffic really hits,

racing to get to school before the drop-off crush, and racing off again to work or whatever other

appointments you have. Now, imagine a school day in which all that stress and responsibility lies

with someone else. Calmer mornings, less stressed parents and happier families.

To sign for the School bus, Kindly email [email protected] or Ms Solape Ajagunna,

08131310515 for more information.
