Pastor’s Corner

Be patient! How many times have we heard that? It does indeed come right from scripture. It is from both the Old Testament and today’s reading from James. Be patient, for the Lord is coming. He will fulfill all His promises and restore all creation and humanity to perfect harmony. Isaiah gives us such beautiful poetry to describe what it will be like. He of course was talking about the return of Israel from its captivity in Babylon to Jerusalem, something his listeners had not yet experienced since they had been exiled for about 75 years. Isaiah gives hope to people in darkness, just as the New Testament scriptures give us hope until the final coming of the Lord. Meanwhile, we must patiently work to prepare the way of the Lord. John the Baptist, imprisoned and perhaps a little depressed, had the courage to ask Jesus if He was the One. Do we sometimes feel like asking Him the same question? Are You going to handle the problems of the world, and of my world? I’m waiting! Sometimes we probably feel exactly like John. When will our problems end? Just as God has spoken to His people for thousands of years, He speaks to us. Be patient! If anyone else had told us to be patient for a couple thousand years, we would certainly abandon them. But in fact, we do know from our own experience that God answers our calls for help. It may not be when or in the way we want, but God does answer. In hindsight we see how God works in our lives and brings us to His love and forgiveness just when we are about to give up. And then we can certainly say, at least until our next trial, He is indeed the One!! He is on His way!

Respect Life This story happened in a Boulder County restaurant very recently.

A daughter and her parents were having dinner. The daughter is newly pregnant. They are discussing alternatives. There is tension but they're civil. The parents are advocating abortion, citing concern for the daughter's whole life. The daughter wants to have the baby in keeping with church teachings. The waitress brings drinks. Overhearing the conversation, she keeps to herself and tries to depart saying "I'll give you guys some time". The father calls her back and asks "You're young, what would you do in this situation?" The waitress reached into her pocket for her keys. She detached a "TITL" key chain, that's Trust In The Lord carved from wood, and left it on the table. They recognized it. The mood improved. After dinner, the daughter asked the waitress if she can keep the key chain. The waitress said yes. The family left the restaurant happy. The key chain was hand carved by the waitress's grandfather. When the grandparents visited the Vatican, they took the key chain so it could be blessed by Pope Francis. Wow, what a gift! Many small details were omitted for the sake of brevity. They can be summarized as: God is active everywhere, all the time. What a great story!

RE CALENDAR: Dec. 13/14 – Class Dec. 19 – Jan. 2 – CHRISTMAS BREAK

CATHOLIC RADIO KRCN – 1060 am – “Change your station, change your life.”

This year of Mercy has brought me to the school of Mercy, especially regarding my adult children. – From a caller to the Take 2 Show.

We want to do more! We know that we have many people in our community who are in dire need of a meal. As part of our evangelization to others in the community, and as an out-reach to continue in the spirit of the Jubilee year of Mercy, we are planning

to partner with Agape, to make a meal for the homeless once a month, through our Meals of Mercy program.

We will be helping with their new Safe Haven program. This program aims to be a “Hand up” rather than a “Hand out” program. Through an application process, 25 homeless individuals who are trying to get their feet on the ground, have been chosen to participate. They will have guaranteed shelter from Nov. 15-March 15th. Many of these individuals work day labor jobs but have no place to rest their bodies at night but on the street. Through the partnership with Faith Community Lutheran Church and New Creation Church, Agape/Safe Haven will set up cots and will count on volunteers to be present on site, as well as provide a hot dinner and simple breakfast.

We will provide one dinner and one breakfast a month. If interested in being a part of this important outreach, please contact Michele McCracken at: [email protected], ph: 303-564-0696 or Judy Cabrera at the office: 303-772-6322.

OTHER NEWS: GET READY! Meals of Mercy is planning to create a cookbook, along with all of you, with ½ of the proceeds going to our building fund, and ½ of the proceeds going to the Meals of Mercy program in order to develop a budget for this program.

It has been several years since we did a cookbook at St. Francis of Assisi. We plan to kick off the recipe collecting at the first of the year and have the cookbook ready for sale in Oct. 2017, in time for holiday gift giving! Put aside your favorite recipes so we can include them in our cookbook, along with a possible special message about your recipe (s) or a favorite Bible verse or quote.

How Will You Pass on Your Catholic Legacy? Just as we plan to ensure financial health for our families, we must plan for the health of our “faith families.” Your deferred gift to St. Francis of Assisi Longmont Parish held at The Catholic Foundation will provide financial support for the many generations to come. What a wonderful way to steward your finances to pass along your faith and love for your parish. You have an amazing Catholic legacy…Pass It On! For a free consultation about the advantages of making a planned gift to The Catholic Foundation for the benefit of St. Francis of Assisi Longmont Parish or favorite Catholic organization, please contact Jean Finegan at the Foundation at 303.867.0613 or visit www.TheCatholicFoundation.com.
