A NOTE FROM FATHER ANDREW
Dear Parish Family,
Welcome to another LIFT weekend. The theme for this weekend is Christmas is Coming. I am sure that
this weekend’s presentation will help all our families and those who attend realize the importance of hope
and what that means in this holy season.
As we approach Christmas I have been inviting members of our community to serve in different areas for
our Christmas masses. Please consider giving some time to greet those gathering for mass with a smile and
welcome. This is so important for us as a parish to make sure that we welcome all who come through our
doors during the Christmas season. Also consider signing up for Jingle Jam remember our mission comes
from Jesus who tells us to make disciples. That command is to grow even the youngest disciples among us.
“The blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised.” Jesus has quite a
résumé. When asked whether or not he is the long awaited Messiah, Jesus replies with this list of his creden-
tials as proof of his position. These signs and wonders speak volumes, to be sure. But perhaps the most in-
teresting line on the list is his concluding one, “the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.” Why does he
count this among his litany of miracles? What is so remarkable about sharing good news?
Perhaps Jesus included this element of his work—the preaching of good news—to remind his followers that
the physical healings were not the ultimate goal of his mission. Rather, the spiritual healing that comes
from hearing the good news of salvation is what Jesus was really about. The “poor”—which in a sense
means all of us sinners, trapped by the poverty of the sins that enslave us—are freed by Jesus’ message of a
loving God who wants to bring us into his kingdom. Our poverty is erased by his richness. His mercy
“undoes” our sin and we are invited to become the children of God who share in the glories of his heavenly
abode.
Sometimes it’s tempting to just want the visible miracles. But the invisible ones—the conversions that take
place in the silence of the human heart—are truly the more important works of God. Such interior transfor-
mation is what leads us to eternal life; even a physical cure won’t last for eternity—death still comes at
some point. But the really good news is that this miracle of conversion is available to all of us. And this sea-
son of Advent is the perfect time to let God work his miracles in our hearts.
Have a wonderful week!
See you on the weekend.

“You too must be patient. Make you hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand.” James 5:8
Patience is another one of those things many of us struggle with. We want things to go according to
our plan & our schedule. Any change brings anxiety & fear. Through daily prayer we better align our-
selves with God’s will & His plan, which is far better than anything we can come up with on our own.

ST. V INCENT DE PAUL
We ask our parishioners to help us make Christmas special for people at New Lisbon and children helped by St
Vincent de Paul Society this past year. You are encouraged to take a tag from the Christmas Tree in the atri-
um. Please purchase the item requested on the tag, wrap it, and attach the entire tag to the front of the pack-
age. Do not cut the tag leaving only the name. The gift should be put back under the tree in the atrium. It is
extremely important that the gifts be returned by Sunday, December 18, 2016 or sooner. The gifts will be giv-
en to the families for their children during the week of December 19, 2016
Christmas Food Baskets will be distributed to those in need on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00

the display table in the Cafe.
Please continue your monetary support to help those in our community with their housing, heating and electric
assistance this winter. Your donations can be put in the Poor Boxes through out the church. Also consider
purchasing Supermarket Certificates after all masses. St Vincent de Paul Society receives 5% of the sales. God
bless all of you for "Helping us Help Others" in our surrounding community.

ADVENT M ESSAGE S ERIES - CHRISTMAS IS COMING!
Christmas is the season of hope. The season awakens in us the deepest desire of heart that life could be and
should be better. We hope we will get what we want for Christmas, we hope the season will be filled with
cheer, hope that our families will get along with one another. We have hope and yet we also have fears that
maybe our hope is unfounded. It can be dangerous to hope because hope unfulfilled makes the heart sick.
Hope unfulfilled can be painful.
And so often we manage expectations and disappointments. We feel like we should give up because nothing good happens.
However, Christ didn’t come to lower our expectations but to exceed them.
In this series, we will look at the importance of hope as a Christian virtue and why hope doesn’t disappoint.
Week Three – Wait with Joyful Hope
Scripture: James 5:7-10
Hope requires waiting. Hope is waiting for God to deliver what he is going to give us. In this week we will look at how to wait
patiently and with joy wait for what God wants to give us.
A.C.T.S. A CTIVELY CARING THROUGH SHARING
A.C.T.S., our women’s group, would like to invite all ladies of the parish to come to our December potluck
event on Tuesday December 13th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Hoffman Hall. Please sign up at the following
link to let us know you are coming: http://tinyurl.com/zrtavh3. Lemonade will be provided. Feel free to
bring a friend and a beverage and dish to share. As always babes in arms are welcome!
INVITE SOMEONE TO CHRISTMAS MASS
What better time than Christmas to invite someone who has been away to join you at Mass? Perhaps it’s an
adult child, a relative, a dear friend or a neighbor who grew up in the Catholic tradition but has fallen away for
one reason or another. You have shared your faith experience at Holy Eucharist but that person has not taken
the next step to join you. Christmas is such a good time for people to come back to church. It is filled with
tradition and memories of going to Christmas mass in years past. Visitors will feel a sense of welcome and fa-
miliarity as we sing the known songs of Christmas. They will feel comfortable knowing there will be many
visitors at Christmas Mass. And maybe, just maybe… they will return again to join our faith community.
We have supplied you with a post card that you can send. You can send the card with a note of invitation to a
certain mass time or just plant the seed. Or perhaps, you can include the postcard with your Christmas card
mailing. Remember… there is nothing like a personal invitation to encourage someone to take the next step in
faith. Help make disciples at Holy Eucharist!

THIRD WEEK OF A DVENT
“Jingle Jam: Put a Bow on It”, a children’s Christmas experience event will be offered at the
3:00 pm, 4:30 pm and 6:00 pm Masses on Christmas eve.
Children will experience the joy of the Christmas story through song, dance and storytelling.
Children will depart from the main worship space at the beginning of mass and proceed to Hoffman Hall.
They will return after the homily.
Consider using your time, your resources and your talents to reach children in our community. We hope the impact it has
last long into the future! To learn more visit the Jingle Jam page at http://holyeucharist.org/#/jingle-jam.
The third Sunday of Advent is traditionally called Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete is the Latin word meaning “rejoice.” This
Sunday is so named because “Rejoice” is the first word in the entrance antiphon for today's Mass taken from Philippi-
ans 4:4,5: “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice! The Lord is near.” Some people mark this Sunday
on their Advent wreath with a pink candle instead of a purple or blue candle. This Sunday is a joyful reminder
that our salvation is near.
Consider these ways to serve and share the joy that is Jesus this Advent:
Contribute food for a Christmas dinner for those in need in our area served by St. Vincent de Paul. (see
their display in the café).
Serve as a minister in our parish individually or as a family. Give your gift of time to one of our weekend
ministries—Kidzone, Children’s Word, Greeter, Café ministy. Visit our website at http://
holyeucharist.org/#/ministry/next-step. Serve as little or as often as your schedule permits
At Holy Eucharist we encourage all to look at your giving as a response to the blessings God has given
them throughout their lives. Giving of our treasure is an important commitment. Your support through Sunday col-
lections are important building blocks for the programs, facilities and functions of our parish. Visit http://
holyeucharist.org/#/welcome/giving for more information.
