While some of our usual Christmas events won’t go ahead, we have devised various campaigns to help draw visitors to the city whilst adhering to current government guidelines. CHRISTMAS WINDOW DISPLAY COMPETITION We will once again be holding our popular Christmas Window Competition. We are delighted to announce that we already have a celebrity lined up to judge this year’s best display, so watch this space for more news. Windows are due to be judged between Saturday 21st and Friday 27th November. Therefore all displays will need to be in place by Saturday 21st November at the very latest. If your business is planning on taking part in this year’s competition we will need to know by 23rd October - let us know by emailing [email protected]. LATE NIGHT SHOPPING We recently sent a survey asking for your feedback on extended opening hours. We had lots of comments from the public last year that they would have liked to see more late night shopping opportunities so we want to hear about your plans for this year. FAIRY TALE TRAIL Always popular with families, our trails have proven to be a great way to encourage visitors to the city centre. This year our Christmas trail will be taking inspiration from much-loved fairy tale classics and adding a little extra enchantment to the streets of Chichester. If you would like to be involved, please register your interest by 19th October to Jeanette on [email protected]. The trail is due to launch on the 21st November and will run until 21st December. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS The Rotary Club are currently working on their Christmas plans for the Christmas tree at the Cross, however we will not be organising a big light switch on. Instead the lights will come on in phases from mid-November. We are still going ahead with the same programme of festive light displays to ensure the city looks just as magical as ever this Christmas.

RAngERs RECOuP OVER £1,400 in OnE DAy Our BID Rangers recently managed to recover £1,497.32 worth of stolen goods in just one afternoon.

The goods came from two Chichester businesses that were targeted in a bulk theft last month. Once the alarm was raised, the Rangers checked CCTV and quickly identified the thieves who they then tracked down at the train station. All items were returned to their rightful owners.

If your business experiences any crime of this nature, ensure that you use your ChiBAC radio, DISC portal, the police and make contact with BID Rangers.

ChiChEsTER MARkETs COViD uPDATE

Due to government safety guidelines and to ensure easier social distancing on Chichester's High Streets, the Wednesday General Market and fortnightly Friday Farmers' Market has been trading from the Cattle Market since June.

Chichester District Council's internal High Street Group, High Street Recovery and Transformation Group and Strategic Leadership Team has considered delivery of markets in Chichester at great length to ensure safety for all at this time. Due to the requirement to keep specific areas free for emergency vehicle access, the permitted new

seating areas outside high street premises as part of West Sussex County Council's pavement licence scheme, as well as new temporary outdoor seating areas due to the recent change in Government legislation and the innovative use of vacant shops on the high street, Chichester District Council feel that it would not be safe or

appropriate for either the Wednesday Market or Farmers' Market to return to East Street or North Street at this time.

Chichester District Council is continuously monitoring the situation and will ensure all traders are kept updated on any changes.

AgM suMMARyWe held our virtual AGM last month where various topics were covered and Directors for Chichester BID were determined. There was an update on the new Chairperson and the positive response received for this role. We are hopeful the new Chair will be in place by the next Board Meeting, which will be in December

There was lots of discussion around the support businesses and the city centre will need over the next 6 months from the BID team and Chichester District

Council, to help navigate this next stage in the pandemic. Suggestions included the provision of communal covered areas and seating to help with queues in the bad weather.

CDC has appointed Covid Officers to provide support and are reminding businesses that grants are still available, more details can be found later in this newsletter. For the full minutes from the meeting and list of Directors, please visit our website.
