I want to wish every candidate the very best of luck. Tower House School’s annual Christmas Concert is taking place on Thursday 30th November at 6:00pm in the school hall. It will be a delightful evening with a variety of performances by soloists and ensembles playing a range of genres. There will be a dress rehearsal on the day of the concert so please could you son remember his instrument and music. It's a concert not to be missed. All boys performing in the concert have been notified of the programme and we look forward to welcoming them with their families next Thursday. This week, along with preparing the junior boys for the nativity and the Senior School for the upcoming carol concert, we still managed to fit in some wonderful solo performances during music lessons. Rohan Malhotra played two contrasting pieces on the double bass (including a funky jazz pizzicato piece), Oliver Ross played 'When the Saints Go Marching In' on the flute and Charlie Howard- Vyse and Arthur Hampshire performed a trumpet duet of 'Twinkle Twinkle'. The annual recorder concert was a resounding success. Over 40 boys from the Junior and Senior school performed an array of solo and group pieces to a large appreciative audience. The standard was exceptionally high and the boys should be extremely proud of themselves. I do believe it was the best concert yet, with a crowd pleasing rendition of 'Rock Around the Clock' to finish! I must praise Mrs McGovern for all her hard work with her pupils. Last week, Year 6 undertook the annual Primary Maths Challenge, which is a national contest requiring the entrants to answer 25 multiple choice questions. The questions were very complex, so much so that the boys asked on more than one occasion 'where is the Maths in this question?'. However, the boys did extremely well, achieving numerous bronze and silver certificates. Gabe, Ed and Theo managed to achieve a gold certificate though and congratulations go to them for their outstanding work.

It Seemed Like a Cunning Plan at the Time.

A number of staff members are teaching today perhaps with a smidgen of greasepaint still visible having (hopefully) entertained the 80+ attendees at last night’s FOTH social. As is always the case, such evenings can only come about as a result of a huge amount of teamwork. My thanks, nay admiration, go to my fellow players for their talent and bravery and the Master Guild of Set Builders excelled once again. Backstage crew, technical crew all please take a bow and of course many thanks to FOTH for coordinating affairs at front of house. One should never jinx a live production by writing in advance but I am sure those coming this evening will also have a great time – there will be more photos to share in next week’s newsletter.

Is there a more tedious topic? I would certainly prefer to be writing about more exciting things. However, it would seem that previous requests for consideration are still not being heeded. It is said that good reputations take years to acquire but can be destroyed in a few moments. A good relationship with our neighbours is paramount for the school to function in the short term and develop in the long term. On Monday, a black Mini, with registration plate LF60 EST, was parked illegally at the entrance into Sheen Gate Gardens – it was getting dark and the lines of sight made it dangerous for pedestrians. Also, residents of Firs Avenue have complained of cars being parked across their driveways.I once again ask for all drivers to park legally so as to protect lives and reputations accordingly.

Once all the house football matches have been played on Wednesday we change sports to Rugby. Mr Evans will be pleased! The most important thing to note on this front is that all boys from Year 4-8 need to have CUSTOM FITTED mouth guards from Wednesday onwards and also in every games lesson.

Sport News from Mr Peyton

A new feature that will become a weekly announcement in the newsletter will be the weeks whole school House champions. Hot off the press these are collated and announced in House point assemblies on Fridays.

This weeks House winners were--------NEWTON!

A huge ‘well done’ to all of our Year 5 boys who have been hard at work flying the THS flag on the football pitch after all other year groups have finished their matches for the term. Some excellent performances from A, B and C teams against Kew Green and Hornsby saw these boys win and draw 5 matches and lose just 1! A fabulous way to end the season.

Next week sees the final football events of the year with the hotly anticipated, and keenly contested, house football matches. The Year 6/7/8 boys play on Monday and the Year 4/5 matches are on Tuesday. Weather permitting, these games are all outside at the BofE and spectator parents support is very much encouraged and welcomed. Do come along and see your son play for his house. At senior level we have A and B team tournaments while the Y4/5 boys play 8 a-side. Every boy plays in every match (subs have to be used) so there will be lots of football for every boy to play. Please come along to support if you can.

Final fixtures.

On Thursday, Year Two visited The Orleans Gallery in Marble

Hill Park to participate in a workshop about the brain.

“The whole class had to sit down when we went in the hall and after that we went to see some wonderful pictures.” (Hugo)

“We had a green and a red card.” (Jack T) “We had to put the green card for the one picture that you thought was best and the red for the picture you thought was the worst.” (George)

“Then we went to learn about the brain….We learned about neurons and if we get good at something we got a synapse.” (Cameron)

Year Two made pictures inspired by neurons and synapses by painting paper with water, dropping coloured ink from pipettes onto the paper and blowing the ink droplets around through a straw. “Then we did pictures of things our brain can do” (William T) on acetate, adding

colour with cellophane. Finally,”…we put all the pictures on a projector.” (William B) and looked at them on the ceiling. The boys had a brilliant time. Keep your eye out for our

new artwork display coming soon to a Junior School near you!
