    Dear Colleagues

Everywhere you turn, it seems our Democratic valuesthe principles and ideals that make

New Mexico and America great - are under attack. As I write to you today, Republicans are

insisting that we take our state and nation back to the time of George W. Bush and Dick

Cheney, and Karl Rove, God forbid. And, as New Mexicans across our state look forward to

enjoying time with family and friends this ThanksgivingRepublicans are working

feverishly to attack and destroy the very working people that we should be honoring. Now,

more than ever, we need to be strong and stand firm for the poor, the working class the

men, women and children that dont have the luxury of corporate lobbyists As Democrats,

we should believe in the old adage, think globally and act locally. Th ats why Im writing to

ask for your support for the position of Minority Leader of the New Mexico House of

Representatives. Im a life-long Democrat whos spent my career working for Democratic

values and fighting for working people.

I was a public school teacher for 21 years and the President of the American Federation of

Teachers, NM as well as well as State President of the New Mexico Federation of Labor,

AFL-CIO for 12 years. Ive been involved with many, many progressive causes for over 38

years. As many of you know, I was born and raised in Taos, NM and Ill always consider

myself to be a Nortea, but Ive lived in Albuquerque since I started teaching in

Albuquerque 1981. All my life I have been dedicated to public service, whether as an elected

official, union activist, teacher or private individual. I have consistently worked on behalf

of New Mexicos children and families, particularly trying to give voice to those in our

community who too often have been left out of the political process. Ive worked on

innovative education programs and Ive been a champion of early education, especially theconstitutional amendment for early learning as well as increasing funding for K-12

education. During my time in the legislature, Ive been a tireless advocate for working

men and women with a 100% pro-labor voting record and a conservation record as good as

anyone in New Mexico while championing sustainable and quality economic development.

Ive championed Anti-Predatory Lending legislation, increasing the minimum wage,

womens rights and many other progressive and innovative ideas.

When I was little my dad told me, in Spanish, tu no tienes pelos en la lengua. It took a

while before I understood what he meant and it means is that I am not afraid to speak my

mind or say what is on my mind. I humbly ask for your support and I look forward to

serving you in the New Mexico House of Representatives.

    Sincerely,

    State Representative Christine Trujillo
