Advent at OPCC
We again are in the midst of a new year in the church calendar A beginning that is an ending and an ending that is a beginning that we call Advent
This year as we wait for the Christ we ponder together What Canrsquot Wait Advent is a season of waiting but is idle waiting what God wants of us
While we live in the tension of waiting for Christ to come into the world in a new way what demands our immediate attention What requires our work and preparation
What is it that God canrsquot wait for Is it our praise Can God wait for our reconciliation Can our proclamations wait Is it the end of suffering isolation and fear
This Advent we invite you to join us in imagining prioritizing and preparing As we wait what canrsquot wait
Wonrsquot you join us for 1030 am worship services in Advent Wont you join us for some of these wonderful opportunities listed here in the newsletter Advent simply wonrsquot be the same without you
Sunday December 8 ndash Peace and Repentance Canrsquot Wait
Sunday December 15 ndash Joy and Delight Canrsquot Wait
Sunday December 22 ndash Love and Courage Canrsquot Wait
Tuesday December 24 ndash God Couldnrsquot Wait

Longest Night Service
For many the Christmas season is a bittersweet time of year Everywhere we go the constant refrain and messages of the season about
getting together with family and friends reminds some of us of what we have lost or have never had The anguish of broken relationships the
insecurity of unemployment the feelings of being outcast the weariness of ill health the pain of isolation or the grief of a lost loved one mdash all
these can make us feel very alone in the midst of celebrations Our hope is that this Longest Night
worship service will create a safe and sacred space for those who are struggling to feel the joy and light of this holiday season due to loss of any kind It is not intended to be a service of healing

simultaneously remembering that we worship a God who is with us even in the darkest of times This year our ldquoLongest Night Servicerdquo will be
on Tuesday December 17 at 600pm
Join with us to hear scripture offer prayers for healing and wholeness and sing music that
acknowledges Godrsquos presence is for those who mourn those who grieve and those who
struggle Godrsquos Word comes to shine light into our darkness ALL are welcome
