D&P NEWS February 19, 2017

Today's reading contains one of God’s most challenging com-mandments – to love your neighbour as you love yourself. By supporng our brothers and sisters around the world, we show love and solidarity through our acons. In the Philippines, De-velopment and Peace – Caritas Canada has helped to form the Community of Yolanda Survivors and Partners, an alliance of 172 local organizaons who are seeking acve cizen parcipa-on in the reconstrucon e orts following Typhoon Haiyan. The CYSP protected 10,000 already marginalized families who were threatened by displacement due to the construcon of a government-sponsored de barrier project. This was made pos-sible in part to the $243,758.54 raised by the Diocese of Nelson for the Philippines. For more informaon on reconstrucon e orts, please visit hps://www.devp.org/en/emergencies/philippines

World Day of Prayer SAT, MARCH 4 “Am I being Unfair to You?” World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together on the first Friday in March each year to observe a common day of prayer. They affirm their faith in Jesus Christ and engage with the whole world, enrich each other by the faith experiences of Christians of other countries and cultures, share the burdens of other people by praying with them and for them, and use their talents in the service of God’s world. Prayer and action are inseparable and both

have immeasurable influence in the world. This year’s Prayer Committee is from the Philippines. Regular Sat Mass at 5pm followed by World Day of Prayer Service and a Filipino dinner to follow.

Rachel’s Corner

“We are in the process of being changed and we have not arrived yet. There is continual change as we allow God to be our one and only source. You don’t have to be mad at yourself that you are not what you ought to be yet. The more guilt and condemnation you drag around with yourself the less likely you are to keep changing. Your future has no room for the regrets of your past. -JM

Have you been dragging your self-condemnation and guilt from the past? Are you ready to emerge from that prison and be set free? Come on a Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat and receive healing from your abortion.

Ash Wednesday Wed. March 1 at 7:00 pm in Oliver. There will also be a Mass in the morning at 11am in Ok Falls at Our Lady of Lourdes. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. It is a season of penance, reflection, and fasting which prepares us for Christ's Resurrection on Easter Sunday. “Remember, you are dust, and unto dust you shall return.” Ashes are a symbol of penance made sacramental by the blessing of the Church, and they help us develop a spirit of humility and sacrifice. Do you have palms left over from last year? Bring them into the church and drop them off in the photocopy room to be made into ashes.
