Parish Picnic Today! Please join us from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.at Howard Amon Park’s Fingernail. Christ the King has reserved the entire park for our use.
The Knights of Columbus will provide hamburgers and hotdogs and the church will provide buns, condiments and beverages. Please bring a lawn chair, tableware and a dish to share. No desserts please as it too will be provided.
Bocce ball, volleyball, badminton and lawn golf will be set-up. If there is another game you would like to play, we welcome it! A deck of cards also works well in the shade along the Columbia! The park is actually reserved until 4:30 so you are welcome to stay longer.

Our Thanks: Catherine ‘Pat’ Kohler was 88 when she passed away last July. We are grateful for her thought-ful and generous gift to Christ the King, her parish. Her $20,000 bequest will greatly help pay for our new parking lot. Have you included Christ the King parish in your will?
Cross Catholic Outreach: Fr. James Quinlan w ill visit our parish next weekend to speak at all the Masses on behalf of the poor in developing countries. Cross Catholic Outreach was founded to create a meaningful link between parishes in America and the priests and nuns working in the church in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and Central and South America.

Our 2016 Vacation Bible School, held June 20-24. was an amazing adventure where 204 children, entering Kindergarten through 5th grade, along with 38 more preschool children (age 4) learned to follow the light of Christ!. Job Openings for the 2016-17 school year:
Part-time Custodian. School year hours are M-F in the late afternoon/evening. Summer hours are during the day.
Library Clerk. Part-time position working the school calendar only.
Part-time Cafeteria Worker. 3 hours/day M-F based on the school calendar.
Preschool Educational Assistant in our new Montessori Classroom. Schedule is for the morning (8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.) based on the Montessori school calendar.

RCIA Inquiry Sessions: 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays July 14 and August 11 in the Multipurpose Room. These sessions
are for those wanting to know more about the Catholic church and those with specific questions and concerns about the tenets of our Faith. Our regular RCIA sessions will resume weekly on September 1 for the beginning of the new cycle.

FIREWORK FUNDRAISER! CK Lifeteen’s Mission Trip teens will be running a fire-work stand as a fundraiser for their trip. Our stand will be in the parking lot of the Ace Hardware on Gway from June 28-July 4. Thank you and we are excited for the mission trip to come.
Cub Scout Corner
Cub Scouts enriches life for boys in 1st - 5th grade. Pack 249 consists of students both from Christ the King School and from the surrounding Tri-Cities area. Boys do not have to attend Christ the King School or church to participate. Come join the Cub Scouts for exciting activities; we would love to have you join our pack! At first glance, today's readings seem a bit harsh. Elisha is called to succeed Elijah the prophet quite suddenly. His request to say goodbye to his family is ignored. But ultimately, Elisha's response to this radical call to disci-pleship is to accept the challenge and follow Elijah. In the same way, the Gospel reading contains Jesus's warning to those who participate in the proclamation of the Gospel: they will have nowhere to rest, and must forsake even family duties. Only those who are ready to abandon all for the kingdom are fit to serve God.
Yet even this harsh warning shows God's great mercy, because the Lord is preparing His followers for the diffi-cult path ahead. The call to participate in the ministry of Christ is given only to a few, and discernment is neces-sary before deciding follow Christ in this way. The Lord desires to make them fully aware of all they must give up in accepting a religious vocation. This is why semi-narians and religious have such long periods of for-mation and discernment. They must be prepared for a life unlike any other, a life of hardship and self-sacrifice, but also filled with the greatest love of all: the love of God and service to his people. All those called to serve in this way must respond without reservation. What is truly amazing is that, despite the warnings and the hardships, so many do say "yes."
When you hear God's call, whether to religious life, marriage, or another vocation, are you prepared to give up all else and follow Him? He will give you the grace you need to answer His call, but will not force you to say "yes" - He will always defer to your free will. What-ever path you choose, He will not abandon you but will continue to call you to perfection, if you just listen for His voice in all things.

happened several times since the Sisters of the Holy
Names left the parish in 1983. We will be looking for
new administrators; we are very grateful to Mrs. Ras-
mussen and Mrs. Reed for their marvelous service to
the parish and our children. We thank you for your
prayers for them, and we ask your prayers for the suc-
cess of our effort to redesign our school administration.

The Scapular stands for a commitment to follow Jesus, like Mary, the perfect model of all the disciples of Christ. This commitment finds its origin in baptism by which we become children of God.
The Blessed Virgin teaches us:
1. to be open to God, and to His will, shown to us in the events of our lives;

3. to listen to the Word of God in the Bible and in life, to believe in it and to put into practice its demands;

5. to pray at all times, as a way of discovering the presence of God in all that is happening around us;

Spiritual Practices
Ignatian Spirituality
Ignatian Spirituality helps us search for God through various prayer forms that have been practiced by the saints throughout history including contemplation, meditation, imaginative prayer, discernment, and more. Through practice of these various prayer forms, we learn how to live life for the greater glory of God. Of course, this puts us in direct contact with Christ, our redeemer, and we deepen our relationship with Him. The Exercises are a great opportunity for each person to grow in love and in their understanding of where they have been called, and how to follow that call.
The Spiritual Exercises will start a new session on September 10, in the Christ the King Youth Center Game Room. We invite you to join us.
