Loved and Sent Spreads Two words have helped our congregation focus on our identity and purpose. "Loved" means that we are deeply rooted in the gracious gospel of Jesus Christ. "Sent" means that we are deployed by God to live out the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. This simple, yet profound truth has helped clearly articulate our mission.

» a “transfer of blessings”

shares the vision of life

The famous renaissance artist, Michelangelo, had a vision of life. He painted and sculpted the visions of what he saw with unmatched beauty. He left a legacy that has inspired and been enjoyed for millennia. Having died a pauper, Michelangelo’s one-line last will simply reads, “I die in the faith of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, with a firm hope of a better life to come.” He was a generous man. Martin Luther tells us that the legendary artist used his calling to give untold treasures that serve mankind and the cause of Christ beyond measure. Like Michelangelo, we at Christ Memorial have been given gifts from the heavenly Father. Each baptized member has been given the Father’s Spirit and gifts from Jesus Christ to serve the Church and world. These gifts are ours not because we earned them, but because God loves His creation and He loves you. Whether it is recognized or not, each person has a vision of life. Our vision can include a transfer of blessings to our con-gregation that we designate now in our wills and trusts. Charitable gift planning is an opportunity that promises joy to those who specify how their assets are passed on. And our Transfer the Blessings program provides an easy path to accomplish this opportunity to leave a gift to our church and the Lord’s work. The Christ Memorial “Heritage Wall” that you have heard about is an acknowledgement of those have taken this step. For many, charitable planning promises to positively impact their world and other people’s worlds like few other visionary actions. We can help you. Free assistance is available through the Lutheran Church Missouri Foundation: contact Kirk Mueller, Gift Planning Counselor at 314-704-4389 or by email: [email protected].

»mark senechal sings in carnegie hall

Director of Worship, Mark Senechal is joining a 500 voice choir in a worship celebration at Carnegie Hall sponsored by his alma mater, Concordia College, New York, to commemo-rate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

Dubbed “500 Voices for 500 Years,” the June 25th Hymn Festival and Concert will feature two – 250 voice choirs and an orchestra, presenting a mix of hymn arrangements and choral works, including a cantata by J.S. Bach based on Martin Luther’s hymn “A Mighty Fortress.” The event concludes with both choirs combining in a once-in-a-lifetime worship experi-ence for all who participate and attend.

Mark is excited to reunite with some friends from around the country who are participating, and is looking forward to singing again under one of his mentors, Dr. Ralph Schultz, who was college president during Mark’s undergraduate years. Dr. Schultz is former chairman of Concordia’s music department, who remained active as a choral conductor while president, and significantly influenced Mark’s calling to a life of ministry serving the church.

The concert begins at 2 pm. Interested family and friends on the east coast can find ticket info at: http://www.concordia-ny.edu/about/500-Voices.cfm or at www.carnegiehall.org

Christ Memorial Luther-an Church Library’s annual Summer Reading Club (SRC) starts on May 31 and ends of July 30, 2017.

The SRC has two sets of awards. One for chil-dren ages 0 to 5 years and one of children ages 6 to 11 years.

According to the Ameri-can Library Association the benefits to readers participating in a sum-mer reading program include: encouragement that reading can be-come a lifelong habit and reading over the summer helps children keep their skills up. Reading during the summer helps to mitigate “Summer Slide” or the tendency for students to lose some achievement gains they made during the previ-ous school year.

Someone from the Library will be available each Sunday between services in the Family room.

»senior high youth summer mission work

Youth finishing 8th-12th Grade have the opportunity to be Loved + Sent. This summer they have two opportunities to serve others. The first is right here in St. Louis. We have teamed up with Pastor Micah Glenn who leads the LCMS Ferguson Outpost. Youth and adult leaders will do landscaping work on 2-3 properties in North County. The dates for this event are June 26-29. The second op-portunity is to serve at LCMS Camp Concordia near Greenville, Michigan. This week long trip is July 22-29. Youth and adult lead-ers will host a camp for children and work on improving the camp.

(Youth and adult leaders at Camp Concordia in 2017) If you would be interested in financially supporting the youth and adult leaders in these Loved + Sent opportunities please contact Daniel at [email protected]. Please keep the SR High Youth Mission Trip in your prayers as we organize and prepare. Ultimately, we pray that God would bless our service in the Ferguson area and at Camp Concordia and that these events would impact the lives of our youth. For His Glory, Daniel
