The start of term brought with it some fantastic haircuts and an energetic start to winter sport. The boys have begun to really settle in and to realise the academic requirement at CCGS. We have had a whirlwind of a term with lots of valuable lessons learnt. Friendships have been forged and there are some signs of independence. The reverse of the day boy-boarder swap was a great success with all boys experiencing a little extra TLC and some home cooked meals whilst also having another opportunity to strengthen their ties with the day boys. This has again proven to be a significant event in the Knutsford boys’ calendar and will continue to be improved for next year. PSA winter sports this term have seen many boys putting in great performances. One notable performance came from Lucas (Maradona) Moore with five goals against Wesley in his Year 7 soccer match. The Year 7 and 8 boys have been wonderful contributors at Saturday morning PSA fixtures as supporters, water boys, scorers and boundary umpires. We also have 15 boys involved in community sport, exploring their passion for AFL footy, hockey, basketball and soccer. Academically, tutors reviewed each boy’s Term 1 report, providing encouragement and advice. I reviewed each Knutsford boy’s report with them and outlined their strengths and areas to improve. Overall I was very impressed with the quality of these reports and would have to say that collectively these were some of the best interim reports I have seen in my six years in this role. Claremont leave, rolled out this term, has proved to be rewarding. It has given the boys some flexibility, independence and requires the boys to manage their pocket money wisely over the week. The boys have embraced the requirements this term and boys can now head over to Claremont once during the week and once on the weekend. It is hard to believe we are nearly at the end of another busy term. The range of activities available to all students in the boarding house continues to amaze me and I encourage all students to search for activities to participate in.

The recreation program has been full of fun activities for both year groups. Popular events have included socials, go-karting and Bounce. As well as the many boarding socials the boys have enjoyed, it was also a pleasure to walk the Year 10 boys to the gym for the CCGS Social on Saturday 16 May. The boys

also hosted dinner with the girls from MLC when they joined us in the Sandover Hall on Wednesday 10 June.

Year 9 camps have begun at Kooringal and reports from the boys on the early camps indicate they have enjoyed the high ropes course and canoeing and have found the hiking both challenging and rewarding.

The winter sports season has seen boys representing Christ Church in soccer, football, rugby, hockey or cross-country. While some boys (Lewis Henry, Year 10) have been representing the School in First teams, others have been enjoying playing in their own year level. It has also been pleasing to witness a large number of boys participating in community sport. Liam Forrester has been added to a WAIS sailing squad; Digby Boschetti and Drew Reid have both been playing hockey for Westside Wolves; Adam Nye and Jarad Evans have been playing for Subiaco Soccer Club whilst Sam Sloane, Corizma Butt, Richard Mandijalu, Ben Morgan, Francis Burt, Jesse Harvey, Dan South, Tom Jones and Callum Evans have all been representing Claremont Junior Football Club. Whilst reports of the boys performing well have been pleasing to receive, the most impressive part has been their ability to manage their commitments and to arrange lifts to and from training sessions and matches.

The end of term is a good time to reflect on how boys are working towards their goals set at the beginning of the year. Year 10 boys are now going through the process of subject selections for 2016, and it is a timely reminder that a diligent approach to academic studies is required to achieve one’s potential. Anyone who is looking to improve their results is reminded that Study Lab is a free and valuable resource available to all boarders every Monday to Thursday afternoon.

Congratulations to:

• Richard Mandijalu and Corizma Butt who were invited to the Claremont Football Club Development Squad.

• Alden Lands for being the first Indigenous student to make the CCGS Chess team.

• Mac Maslen and Ben Morgan for winning a reward dinner.

During Term 2 we enjoyed many celebrations and wonderful events.

Congratulations to:

• Aidan Williams and Kuberon Muir for being elevated to Residential Prefect

• Caiden Curtin for making the WA U/18 Football Squad

Years 11 and 12Putting life long memories of these significant events aside, Weeks 6 and 7 arrived with the much-anticipated mid-year examinations. The Year 11 and Year 12 boys worked feverishly for extended periods over this time both in the boarding house and at neighbouring libraries. Many study groups were seen in corners of the boarding house, where the boys realised the benefit of living together, with their peers and staff members close by. Staff throughout the Residential Community applauded their behaviour, focus and endeavour during this period.

There will be the inevitable post-mortem of the examinations where some boys will be happy with their results whilst others will be asking questions as to where they can improve. Either way it is important to realise that throughout the year there will be ups and downs and there is still time to effect change, set new goals and ultimately achieve at the level that reflects both effort and ability. It is important that boys consult their subject teachers during this next period.

Mike Ristovsky Year 11 and Year 12 Co-ordinator

By Week 3, the Year 12 Ball was upon us, with the boys busily

finalising suits, dates and all the appointments associated with such an event. It was a wonderful night for all concerned with many boys attending pre-ball events before being escorted to the Hyatt by limousines, trams, coaches and cars. The paparazzi were kept busy on the night.

The following week the Year 11 Op Shop Dance began with a pre-dance photo shoot, drinks and nibbles for our Year 11 boys and their partners. Parents, friends and staff mingled and admired the beautiful op shop apparel worn by all. I had the good fortune of escorting the boys and their partners to the gym and catching up with them throughout the evening. I was delighted that many of them took the time to introduce me to their dates.

The end of Term 2 is approaching and we are almost halfway through the year. We are finding the time is flying by, which reflects the constant busy nature of the place.

Your young men have really settled in well to the Knutsford community and for the most part are leading active, healthy, fun-loving lives.

All Year 8 boys have now completed their Leeuwin voyages and some very mixed stories and reactions to life on the high seas have been told. Too cold,

We are sure that you are very excited about having quality time again with your sons and catching up with all the news about their busy lives. After an action packed term of winter sport, NAIDOC week, Year 9 Camps, socials, balls, quiz nights, Bounce and not forgetting some serious educational pursuits and school-based activities, your boys will be in need of a well-earned break.

This term we have had the pleasure of hosting exchange student Leighton Quin from Michaelhouse in South Africa. It has been a pleasure having him and he has enjoyed his stay with

too wet, too tired and too sick on the one hand, versus others who thought the experience was amazing.

A popular, diverse range of recreation events have been well attended and we trust the boys have shared some of their adventures with you and you have been able to view photos on Smugmug.

After a long term in winter formals it might be timely to take the uniforms home. Letting down the trousers for the many who have had growth spurts, soaking shirts to spruce up collars and cuffs, dry cleaning blazers and a freshen up of the School jumpers would be perfect.

There are still a few boys lacking long pants (casual dress jeans) that they can wear to functions. A button up shirt instead of a t-shirt for more dressy occasions would also help.

It might also be a good time for a clear out of all non-essential items from each boy’s living pods and a re-stock of essentials like shampoo, soap and toothpaste.

Term 2 concludes at 12.45pm on Friday 3 July. There will be extra parking available on the top oval and we very much look forward to seeing you reunite with your boys.

Enjoy your break and please stay safe.

us. We also welcomed Tim Liu (Yr 10) from China, who has settled in remarkably well.

The office continues to be a hub of activity, especially after school with boys flying in on their way to training, relaying funny anecdotes of their day, or just enjoying down time. This is our favorite time of the day because as you can imagine, it can be very entertaining!

Formal shirts will require extra laundry attention over the holidays to remove staining around collars and cuffs. These stains are largely unavoidable due to excessive wear but are easy to remove with a good soak. Other items that should be laundered over the break are doona covers and pillowcases.

In conclusion, a special message from Jane: On a personal note, sadly this is my last term as Housemother in Walters. After Term 3 long service leave, I will be moving to Knutsford.

Since 2006 I have been so fortunate to have looked after a large number of wonderful boys and become friends with many families along the way. It has been a privilege to witness and be part of the boys’ lives, to watch them grow into fine young men.

Thank you for your continued support and friendship. Enjoy having your boys at home and please drop into Knutsford to say hello anytime you are on campus.
