    RECTORS REFLECTIONS

    ear Friends in Christ,

A new year brings some changes to our life together.

The first is a change in the format and content of SUNDAY SCHOOL.

Beginning January 10 we will offer Joyful Journey worship for young

people in our parish. Everyone will gather for the opening hymn and

acclamation on Sunday morning. Then, during the singing of the Gloria

( or Kyire during Lent) the leaders and the youth will leave to go over to

the parish hall. There we will sing songs, have a short lesson and

interactive activities based on the Gospel reading, pray and return to the

church in time for the exchange of the Peace. If you would like to

volunteer to help (we are hoping to have enough teams to rotate every

six weeks), please let Steve Schrade or me know. If you have children

who participate, please invite them to tell you what we did. Also, ask

them to tell you about the Jesus doll.

The second change involves our Vestry. Our Annual Meeting on January

24 will mark the end of elected terms for Tippe Miller, Steve Schrade and

Phil Sayles. I am grateful to all three for their commitment to serve as leaders in our parish. Both Steve and Phil

are eligible to run for a second term, and Tonya Rudolphsen has agreed to run for a three-year term as

member of the Vestry. Our ANNUAL MEETING is a great time for us to gather, look back on our rich past and

ask where God is calling us to go in the coming year.

Finally, we will have a second Family (Intergenerational) Evening on January 30. We will have child-friendly

worship, food and an opportunity to play games. I invite you to join us and bring a friend.

Wish you all the best in the year to come.

    Yours in Christ,

    Bill

40th ANNIVERSARY OF ORDINATION by Father Scott Nead

oday Im celebrating the 40th Anniversary of

my Ordination to the Priesthood in

Duanesburg, NY, a small town in

Schenectady County, NY, at Christ Episcopal

Church, built by James Duane, 1st Supreme

Court Justice of the United States. It was in this

location that I began my ministry. As I look at the

pictures of this event I am struck by the fact that

the 10-year-old acolytes are now in their 50s.

When I was 7-years-old I announced to my

family that I was going to be an Episcopal Priest,

the denomination that I was baptized into as an

infant in All Saints Cathedral, Albany, NY. I

dressed in my bathrobe and paraded around

with an upside down broom that was my

processional cross. A few years later I wanted to

start a new church in East Greenbush, NY only a

few years after that another priest did start a new

church there. I kept this goal of becoming a

priest all through my growing years and High

School. One week into college and that was all

out the window (so I thought.) For the next four

years I struggled to figure out what I was going to

be when I grew up (some might think I havent

even done that yet). While, attending Fashion

Institute of Technology in New York City for

Fashion Photography, I was visited by they only

power that seemed to be able to give me

direction. I wrestled for a whole night with the

childhood call to become a priest. By morning I

had surrendered and at 6 AM I called my mother

to tell her I was now ready to become a priest.

Her response, that was so like her, was I knew

you would get around to it sooner or later. She

knew even if I didnt. So, I left NYC and headed

back to my former college, Alfred University,

where I received my BA. From there I want to The

University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee,

where I received my MDiv, from St. Lukes

Theological Seminary. It was a long roundabout

way of getting there, but here I am 40 years later.

I have had the honor to serve in many good

    church communities Duanesburg, NY; Albany,

GA; Douglas, GA; Rock Hill, SC; Clinton, SC and

for the last 15 active years in Aiken, SC. They were

small congregations and big congregations and

the last one was a brand new congregation that

I and others, began in 1990. Even this childhood

    dream came true.

Being a priest has been both a joy and a

sorrow. I was a servant for so many people:

leading them in worship and a long transition in

our liturgy; in spiritual growth as well as in

numerical growth; in dreaming of and building

fellowship and worship space (three of them); but

most importantly, in being with them as their

friend/ pastor/priest in good times and not so

good times; in living and dying. It has been a

most rewarding and challenging part of my life

and one I am so grateful that I was chosen for

and had the good sense to embrace so many

years ago on that night when God asked,

Whom shall I send, who will go for me and I

answered, Here am I, send me.

I was in Duanesburg only a year until I

returned "South;" but introduced the "New Prayer

Book" to the congregation and helped them

understand that women were going to be

ordained soon (actually had been extra-

canonically in Philadelphia). This being my 1st

Congregation experience it was and education

for me and them. I have fond memories of being

there and the community as well. It was 1976 and

everyone was celebrating the bi-centennial. We

hosted a "wagon train" crossing the country and

passing through town. We had horses and built

some temporary stalls in the carriage shed and

fenced in a pasture behind it. We also had some

chickens in the field between the house and the

    main road.

Bishop Hogg ordained me on a snowy Dec.

20, 1975. Most of the congregation was present.

Then we had to quickly get ready for Christmas

    service.

On December 20, 2015 the above message was sent to me via our web site. (Fr. Bill)

    VISITING MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY

here are at least 4 parishioners of Christ Church who are currently in nursing homes or homebound. We,

at Christ Church, are all blessed to be connected and need to work together to make sure those who

are currently temporarily or permanently homebound become or remain connected to Christ Church.

If you have an hour or so to spare once a month to stop by for a social visit I am sure they would appreciate it

and it will let them know they are not forgotten. This could be any time during the week which fits into your

    and their schedule.

I will be placing a signup sheet with those who need a social visit out during coffee hour each month for

people to sign up as you have time. If you have any questions please see Deacon Debbie.
